Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Serena? It’s got this unassuming entrance on Via Principe Amedeo that you could honestly walk past without noticing – which is actually perfect if you’re not into those flashy lobby scenes. I mean, it’s literally a two-minute walk from Termini Station, but here’s the thing everyone gets wrong about staying near Central Station: yes, it’s touristy and a bit gritty, but you’re also ridiculously well-connected to everything. The 64 bus stops right outside and takes you straight to Vatican City, plus you’ve got the Metro lines practically at your doorstep. The family running this place seems to get that most people are using this as a launching pad for exploring Rome rather than lounging around the hotel all day.

The rooms are what I’d call “smartly simple” – nothing fancy, but they’ve clearly thought about what travelers actually need. Decent Wi-Fi (tested it extensively, worked fine even on the upper floors), surprisingly good water pressure in the showers, and – this matters more than you’d think – proper blackout curtains that actually block out the street lights. The soundproofing is better than expected too, considering you’re in one of the busier parts of Rome. I stayed there during August when the city gets absolutely packed, and while you’ll hear some street noise during the day, it quiets down nicely at night. The AC works well, which honestly makes it worth the stay during summer months when Rome turns into a furnace.

What I really appreciated was how the staff handled the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. They’ll hold your luggage before check-in (super helpful when you arrive on an early flight), and they actually know the neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist spots. The older gentleman at reception told me about this tiny trattoria around the corner on Via Gioberti that serves the best carbonara I had in Rome, and it’s the kind of place you’d never find without a local tip. Look, this isn’t a luxury hotel – it’s a solid 3-star that knows exactly what it is. The 7.8 rating feels right; it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but it delivers on the basics really well. If you’re the type who wants to spend your money on amazing food and experiences rather than thread counts and marble bathrooms, Hotel Serena makes a lot of sense. Plus, you’ll save a fortune compared to staying in the historic center, and honestly, with Rome’s public transport, you’re never more than 15 minutes from anywhere you want to be.

Reviews

  • It was a great, safe stay especially for someone who wants to spend less on hotel and more on experiences. – Emily from United States – 5 July 2025 (8/10)

I loved how close it is to Roma Termini and other big spots like the Colosseum and the Pantheon for example. It’s easy to walk to some big things.

What could be improved: It is a great deal for the price and location, but it is smaller than you might expect. That being said though, I would choose it again when I come back to Rome because I’m my opinion it was a good deal, I felt safe, and it was clean and the AC once in your room is good.

  • Pleasant clean place in very good location , would definitely stay there again. – David from Canada – 26 June 2025 (9/10)

Nice size room; window that opened in bathroom ; decent breakfast

  • Good – Milan from Czech Republic – 9 June 2025 (7/10)

Location – 5 minutes from Termini and Santa Maria Magiore, perfect for quick visit in Rome

What could be improved: Breakfast room to small , crowded, noise in the night from street, no black out cuirtain

  • Good – Isaac from Israel – 6 June 2025 (7/10)

    Room was convenient
    Good location in termini

What could be improved: The WiFi didn’t work!
And the breakfast was pretty poor

  • I would recommend to friends but warn them about the front desk staff. – Francis from United States – 31 May 2025 (9/10)

Location. I tried the local restaurants and they were all very good.

What could be improved: The staff in the lobby were not friendly or helpful. I stayed at six differnt hotels in Europe and your front desk was the least helpful. Breakfast staff was very friendly and helpful.

  • Very good – Marta from Poland – 11 May 2025 (8/10)

Very nice staff. Clean room, Good breakfast.

  • We had a lovely break, nice weather too. The hotel was really nice and the staff were really nice. – Karen from United Kingdom – 6 May 2025 (9/10)

Location was great, not far from the train station – plenty of restaurants to grab food. The breakfast in the hotel was ok. Good coffee!

What could be improved: Nothing really.

  • Good – Parcelio from Brazil – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

Of the receptionists, who were always helpful, especially a blonde woman whose I forgot her name

    What could be improved: Lift

  • Welcomed and comfortable – Emily from United Kingdom – 19 April 2025 (9/10)

Love the friendliness of staff and the availability of mirrors/good lighting throughout the room! The window was also very good to let someone fresh air in!

What could be improved: Our door didn’t lock and we couldn’t figure out how to work the air conditioner, but windows were plenty for cool air

  • Satisfied overall! – Pojar from Romania – 28 March 2025 (8/10)

We really liked the extremely friendly staff; they helped us with all our requests during our stay. The rooms were clean, and the breakfast was varied (although for some cultures, it might have too many sweet options and not enough filling food).
The hotel is close to Termini Station and other means of transport, and the terraces in front of the hotel are great.
Overall, we were satisfied and will definitely return!

What could be improved: We didn’t like the elevator, which can only accommodate two people and is quite old, though I understand that it is part of the building’s overall structure—an upgrade would be very useful!

Although it’s not related to the hotel, it’s worth noting that after a certain hour in the evening, there are a lot of homeless people on the street. Being near the train station, we didn’t feel very safe after 10 PM, but this is strictly a personal opinion and has nothing to do with the hotel itself.

We also recommend more breakfast options, as we ended up eating the same thing every morning for four days.
