Look, I’ll be straight with you about Hotel Scott House – it’s one of those places that completely surprised me. When I first walked up to Via Gioberti 30, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot so close to Termini Station. You know how that area can be a bit… well, let’s just say it’s not the Rome you see on postcards. But here’s the thing – that’s exactly what makes this place work.

The moment you step inside, it’s like someone hit the mute button on all that station chaos outside. I mean, you’re literally a 3-minute walk from one of Europe’s busiest train hubs, but somehow the Scott House feels tucked away from all of it. The staff actually remembers your name after the first day (rare in Rome, trust me), and they’ve got this way of making recommendations that aren’t just the obvious tourist traps. The woman at reception – I think her name was Giulia – she told me about this tiny osteria on Via Principe Amedeo that I never would’ve found otherwise. That’s the kind of local insight you don’t get at the big chain hotels.

What really sold me on this place, though, was how practical it is without feeling cheap. The rooms aren’t huge – this is Rome, after all – but they’re thoughtfully laid out. Good shower pressure (seriously important after walking 20,000 steps around the city), decent Wi-Fi, and the air conditioning actually works, which isn’t always a given in older Roman buildings. The breakfast isn’t going to win any awards, but it’s proper Italian – good coffee, fresh cornetti, and they don’t try to do some weird international buffet thing that just ends up being mediocre everything. There’s something refreshing about a place that knows what it is and does it well.

The location thing is honestly genius once you figure it out. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto the Spanish Steps, but you’re connected to literally everywhere. Metro’s right there, buses go everywhere, and – this is key – you can actually get back to your hotel easily at night when you’re tired and maybe a little wine-drunk. I stayed here during my second trip to Rome (first time I made the mistake of staying in Trastevere – gorgeous but a nightmare to get to), and I loved being able to hop on the Metro and be at the Colosseum in 10 minutes or the Vatican in 20. Plus, the neighborhood has this authentic feel once you wander a block or two away from the station. Real Romans live here, kids playing in the streets, that whole thing.

The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not perfect, but it’s really, really good at what it’s trying to be. Some nights you’ll hear a bit of street noise, and the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that fits maybe two people if you’re friendly. But honestly? Those feel like minor trade-offs when you’re getting this much value in a city where hotel prices can be absolutely insane. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a find rather than just a booking, Scott House delivers.

  I chose this hotel to be close to the train. It was a 2 minute walk. Extremely clean, good AC, water pressure, and breakfast. Staff was very professional and helpful.
  
  What could be improved: When walking into the reception area, it looks a bit sketchy. The bed was fine for one night, but I don’t think I could have lasted any longer with the scratchy sheets and one hard pillow.

  The room was small but it was enough for one night. Very clean, the bed was very comfortable. Good breakfast: bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, cereal, pastries, boiled eggs. There is a luggage room where we could leave our bags after the check out.
