Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Raffaello? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street in Monti – honestly, I almost walked right past it because the entrance is so understated. But that’s actually perfect because once you’re inside, you realize you’ve found something special without all the tourist chaos that comes with the flashier places near the Colosseum. The lobby has this warm, lived-in feeling that immediately tells you this isn’t some corporate chain trying to be everything to everyone, even though it’s technically part of Best Western’s collection.

The location is seriously unbeatable if you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives here. Via Urbana is one of those streets where you’ll find locals grabbing their morning espresso at the corner bar, not posing for Instagram shots. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum – I mean, you can see it from some of the upper floor windows – but you’re also right in the heart of Monti, which honestly feels like Rome’s most authentic neighborhood these days. There’s this fantastic little enoteca called Il Tasso just around the corner where the owner will pour you natural wines until way too late, and you’ll stumble across tiny trattorias on these medieval side streets that don’t even have signs. The Cavour metro stop is super close too, which saved my feet more than once after long days of walking around the city.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this incredible supplì place on Via del Boschetto that I never would have found otherwise. The rooms are comfortable without being fancy (we’re talking 3-star here, not some luxury palace), but everything works and it’s clean and quiet, which is honestly all you need when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway. The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental stuff, but there’s a proper Italian coffee machine, and honestly, you’re going to want to grab cornetti from one of the local bars anyway – it’s half the price and twice as good. I will say the building is old (charming old, not falling-apart old), so if you’re on a lower floor, you might catch some street noise in the early morning when the delivery trucks start making their rounds, but it’s Rome – that’s just part of the soundtrack.
