Hotel Palazzo Manfredi – Small Luxury Hotels of the World Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Palazzo Manfredi – Small Luxury Hotels of the World honestly feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly sophisticated Roman home — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and unlimited resources. This five-star boutique property sits right in the Monti neighborhood, and I mean right there where you can practically touch the ancient stones of the Colosseum. The lobby isn’t massive or showy, but there’s something about the way they’ve restored this 19th-century building that makes you pause and take it all in.
Location Magic
You know what’s wild about staying here? You’re literally across from the Colosseum — not “near” it, not “walking distance” — you can see gladiators’ ghosts from some of the windows (okay, maybe not ghosts, but you get the idea). Rome spreads out around you in the most authentic way possible. Monti is this perfect blend of ancient ruins and trendy wine bars, where locals actually live and work. I’ve watched couples stand on Via Labicana just staring at the view, and honestly, I get it — the location score of 9.4 isn’t just numbers on a screen.
The Room Experience
Each room here feels like a carefully curated art piece, but one you can actually live in comfortably. The design walks this fine line between contemporary elegance and respect for the building’s history — marble bathrooms that feel both ancient Roman and completely modern. Some rooms have those Colosseum views I mentioned, and if you snag one of those, well, you’ll probably spend way too much time just staring out the window. The attention to detail is what you’d expect from Small Luxury Hotels, but it never feels stuffy or overdone.
Dining and Amenities
The rooftop restaurant and terrace — honestly, this might be where you’ll want to spend most of your evenings. The views are absolutely ridiculous (in the best way), and the food matches the setting without trying too hard to be flashy. Breakfast is a proper buffet spread that actually respects both Italian traditions and international tastes, which isn’t as easy as it sounds. There’s parking available too, which anyone who’s tried to drive in central Rome will appreciate — though honestly, you probably won’t need a car much from this spot.
Why Guests Love It
This place works because it doesn’t try to compete with the ancient wonders around it — instead, it complements them perfectly. Couples especially seem to fall hard for the whole experience (that 9.6 location rating from couples tells the story), and I think it’s because there’s something inherently romantic about falling asleep and waking up in the shadow of one of the world’s most iconic monuments. It’s not just about luxury here — though the luxury is definitely present — it’s about being part of Rome’s living, breathing story while having a beautiful, comfortable base to return to each night.
The luxury concierge service in Rome secures rooftop aperitivo salons, artisan atelier access, and opera boxes at Teatro dell’Opera.

The staff was very professional, helpful, and extremely friendly. The rooms are better in person. Everything seems brand new. The Colosseum is only steps away.

Loved the staff, location, view, breakfast, Michelin star dinner. We really enjoyed looking at the Colliseum from our bedroom and bathroom and were impressed with the extremely helpful staff. Also, while the room was on the small side it was designed with impeccable taste and perfect functionality. We will always return to Hotel Manfredi in Rome…a keeper!

An incredible hotel with stunning rooms and breathtaking views overlooking the Colosseum. What truly stood out for us was the staff—they went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. A special shoutout to the breakfast team, who took exceptional care of us with a fantastic selection and the best omelet I’ve ever had! Overall, a truly special hotel that we highly recommend!
