Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Hotel Oxford during one of those frantic Rome booking sessions where everything decent seemed full, and honestly? I’m kind of glad the fancy places were booked up. This four-star spot on Via Boncompagni turned out to be one of those finds that makes you feel like you actually know Rome instead of just visiting it.
The thing about this location is that you’re in Ludovisi – which, okay, sounds fancy but it’s actually this quiet residential pocket where real Romans live alongside the embassy crowd. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Via Veneto (yeah, that Via Veneto from La Dolce Vita), but without the tourist chaos. I mean, you can grab your morning cornetto from the little bar on the corner and watch the locals do their thing before the day gets crazy. The hotel itself has this understated Italian elegance thing going on – not the over-the-top marble everywhere approach, but more like staying at your well-traveled aunt’s place if she had really good taste. The lobby actually smells like proper Italian leather and just a hint of espresso, which sounds weird but somehow works perfectly.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood like they’d grown up there. When I asked about dinner, they didn’t just hand me a tourist map – they sent me to this tiny trattoria three blocks away where the owner’s mother still makes the ragu every morning. The rooms are solid without being flashy, and here’s something I appreciated: the walls are actually thick enough that you’re not hearing every conversation in the hallway. The air conditioning works (crucial for Roman summers), and the wifi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes like some places I could mention. Sure, it’s not going to win any design awards, but everything just… works, you know? The shower has proper water pressure, there’s enough storage space for more than just a weekend bag, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a marshmallow.
The real bonus is being able to walk to Villa Borghese when you need a break from cobblestones and crowds – it’s right there, but somehow most tourists don’t realize how close they are. You can hit the Spanish Steps or Trevi Fountain when you want to do the classic Rome thing, but then come back to this little bubble where you can actually breathe. I stayed there during shoulder season and it was perfect, though I imagine summer gets pretty busy with all the embassy folks and business travelers who seem to know about this place. The 7.8 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Rome, but it delivers on the things that actually matter when you’re trying to enjoy the city instead of just surviving it.

Superb – Audrey from Italy – 3 March 2025 (9/10)
This hotel was a great price, in a great location, and has fantastic staff!! I had a problem with my shower on the first night but I told them and they fixed it right away. When I was leaving I tried to call a taxi but there weren’t any around so a wonderful staff member named Stefano just drove me to the train station himself! They were so kind, I definitely recommend staying here

A convenient and central location for the weekend wedding we were attending in Rome. – Josephine from United Kingdom – 19 November 2024 (7/10)
Friendly staff, characterful building.
What could be improved: My only problem was the coffee. The machine did not produce it very hot and on one day it wasn’t working.
As there weren’t any facilities in the room to make hot drinks, apart from leaving the hotel, I missed my “ first thing in the morning “ coffee. Everything else was fine.Lovely stay. Good hotel restaurant. Friendly staff. – George from Switzerland – 18 October 2024 (9/10)

Location and breakfast being included.
What could be improved: Small elevator for handicap and luggage. Room was nice/newly renovated but a little small for handicap with a walker.A very enjoyable stay – Dent from Australia – 16 April 2023 (9/10)
I really enjoyed staying at the Oxford, the room was comfortable and had everything I needed, the staff were very helpful and friendly. I was also able to ask for a kettle for the room. I had asked for a street view and was given one. The location is very central to everything.
What could be improved: A bottle opener and some wine glasses in the room would have been nice. It is Italy afterall. The bathroom only provided a thin disposable plastic cup.Clean hotel, in a quiet location, with fantastic staff and an ideal base to explore Rome. – Joanne from United Kingdom – 12 October 2022 (8/10)
I travelled with my 80 year old mother and it was my first time in Rome. The hotel staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. We were on the first floor so not too many stairs and there was a small lift as well. We went half board and we were glad we did as it was so convenient after a very busy day and could enjoy a bottle of wine and be able to just wander upstairs after. There was a nice variety of food, both at breakfast and dinner. Everything was clean and everyone spoke English and humoured our attempts at Italian.
What could be improved: It was a little bit of a walk to the centre (about 20 minutes to the Trevi Fountain), on a quietish road near the American Embassy. Although in some ways it would have been nice to have been closer I am overall happy that we were in a quieter area as it was less hectic and we never had to book for dinner. The hotel were great at booking taxis for us. Only thing we missed really was a kettle etc to have tea in our room but that is the English in us I suppose,
