Hotel Description

You know what? Hotel Ottaviano Augusto isn’t one of those places that screams luxury from the street – it’s tucked away on Via Bernardino Telesio in the Trionfale neighborhood, and honestly, that’s exactly why it works so well. I mean, you’re still in Rome, obviously, but you’re not dealing with the chaos of tourists dragging suitcases over cobblestones at 6 AM outside your window. The Trionfale area has this lived-in Roman feel where you’ll actually see locals doing their grocery shopping and kids walking to school, which is refreshing after spending days dodging selfie sticks near the Colosseum.

The hotel itself has that classic Roman apartment building vibe – you know, the kind with those heavy wooden doors and marble floors that stay cool even in summer. Check-in was surprisingly smooth (no waiting around while they figured out their computer system), and the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood well enough to give real recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, functional, with decent air conditioning that actually works. Nothing fancy, but the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are properly updated, which honestly matters more than fancy throw pillows when you’ve been walking around Rome all day. The walls are thick enough that you won’t hear your neighbors’ conversations, though you might catch some street sounds in the morning – but it’s just normal city life, not party noise.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the location is actually brilliant once you figure it out. You’re about a 15-minute walk to Vatican City, which means you can easily hit St. Peter’s or the Vatican Museums without the nightmare of finding parking or navigating Rome’s bus system with a crowd of tourists. But more importantly, you’re right near some genuinely good local restaurants – there’s this little trattoria around the corner that doesn’t even have an English menu, and the pizza al taglio place on Via Cola di Rienzo (maybe a 10-minute walk) is where Romans actually go for a quick bite. The Ottaviano metro stop is close enough that you can get to the historic center pretty easily, but far enough that you’re not constantly surrounded by tour groups. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – it’s Rome, after all – but the hotel staff knows which streets have the best chances for finding a spot. The 8.7 rating makes sense to me because it’s one of those places that just gets the basics right without trying too hard to be something it’s not.

The accommodation in this hotel was excellent. Clean rooms, peace and quiet, wonderful view of the city, amazing terrace on the roof. Pleasant and helpful staff, they advised us how to navigate in Rome and where to eat well and cheaply. Safe and clean location, near restaurants and carrefour. Right in the center of the Vatican, near metro and bus stations. The best breakfast, a huge selection of savory and sweet foods, cheeses, eggs and bacon… the best coffee. We recommend and will definitely return. Amazing stay, thank you for everything 🙂
