You know what really surprised me about Hotel Nord Nuova Roma? It’s one of those places that just gets it right without trying too hard. I mean, sure, it’s right by Termini Station – which sounds sketchy if you’ve never been to Rome – but honestly, this whole area around Via Amendola has really cleaned up its act over the past few years. Plus, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the main train station, which is actually brilliant when you’re dragging luggage around cobblestone streets in July heat.

The hotel itself feels like someone’s stylish aunt decided to open a boutique place but kept it real. The lobby has this warm, lived-in elegance – marble floors that have some character to them, not that sterile hotel shine, and the staff actually remembers your name after the first day. I stayed there twice last year (once in spring, once during that crazy August heat wave), and both times the air conditioning worked perfectly, which… well, if you’ve stayed in older Roman hotels, you know that’s not always a given. The rooms are what I’d call “European cozy” – not huge by American standards, but everything’s thoughtfully placed. The beds are actually comfortable, and there’s enough outlets for your devices without having to choose between charging your phone and using the hairdryer.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place: the neighborhood knowledge. The front desk guy – I think his name was Marco – told me about this little trattoria on Via Giolitti that I never would have found otherwise. It’s the kind of spot where you’re eating next to Italian families, not tourists taking Instagram photos of their carbonara. And honestly, being near the station means you can easily hit up that fantastic food market in the basement of Termini (locals call it “the dungeon” but it’s got incredible produce and those porchetta sandwiches that ruin you for airport food forever). The hotel’s also walking distance to Santa Maria Maggiore, which is stunning and way less crowded than the obvious tourist spots. Some mornings I’d grab a coffee from the bar downstairs – proper Italian coffee, not that watery hotel lobby stuff – and just wander over there before the crowds hit. The area can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially on weekends, but it’s more “vibrant neighborhood” than “sketchy,” and the hotel’s windows are solid enough that you won’t lose sleep over it. For a three-star place with an 8.3 rating, it punches way above its weight class.

  The hotel was in a nice traditional Italian style and was very well located for access to the train station. The roof terrace was a lovely place to relax of an evening. We were able to walk to most major sites in 20-25 mins and get a good feel for the city. If you're good with walking, taxi or metro to tourist sites, the hotel represents decent value in my opinion.

  Checked in at night after a long international flight and this was just what we needed. Good bed, pillows and shower. Staff super friendly and helped us find nearby food options. Very manageable walk from termini station (with lots of luggage too).
