Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Milton Roma on Via Emanuele Filiberto, I wasn’t exactly blown away by the exterior. It’s one of those classic Roman buildings that doesn’t scream “luxury hotel” from the street, but you know what? That actually turned out to be part of its charm. The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you – maybe it’s the way they’ve balanced modern touches with that slightly old-world Roman elegance, or maybe it’s just because you’ve escaped the absolute chaos that is the area around Termini Station.
Speaking of Termini – yeah, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Rome’s main train station, which means you’ll hear some street noise during the day, but honestly, it dies down significantly at night. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely get that most guests are either just arriving in Rome (probably exhausted and slightly overwhelmed) or about to leave (definitely exhausted and probably running late). They’ve got this down to a science – quick check-ins, they actually know the train schedules, and they’ll call you a taxi that won’t try to take the scenic route to the airport, if you know what I mean. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than flashy. Everything works properly (which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given in Rome), the air conditioning actually cools the room, and the beds are genuinely comfortable – not just “hotel comfortable” but the kind where you might actually sleep past your alarm.
Here’s what really won me over though: the location is absolutely perfect for anyone who wants to explore Rome without feeling like they need to plan military-style operations to get anywhere. Sure, you’re not in the postcard-pretty historic center, but you’re about a 15-minute walk from the Colosseum, and the Vittorio Emanuele metro stop is basically around the corner. I mean, you can grab breakfast at the hotel (which is solid, by the way – nothing fancy but they know how to make proper coffee), then be standing in front of the Pantheon in under 20 minutes. Plus, this neighborhood has some genuinely great local spots – there’s this little rosticceria on Via Principe Eugenio that makes the best suppli you’ll find outside of Testaccio, and nobody talks about it because it’s not in the guidebooks. The evening scene around here is mostly locals heading home from work, which gives you this nice authentic Roman rhythm that you miss when you’re staying right in the tourist zones. I’ve stayed here twice now, and both times I’ve felt like I was actually in Rome rather than just visiting it – and for a 4-star hotel with an 8.2 rating, that’s exactly what you want.

A good well priced option in Rome. – Penny from Australia – 3 July 2025 (8/10)
Quiet & clean room, comfortable beds. Air conditioning was good. Front desk staff helpful & friendly
What could be improved: It was located a bit far from main attractions so made it tricky to walk back in heat of the day. We found good restaurants & cafes not too far from hotel.Superb – Pornwadee from Iceland – 25 June 2025 (9/10)
Convenient next to metro and bus station. Big bathroom and very good breakfast nice staffs
What could be improved: A bit old interior in roomGreat stay in a super location – Kathleen from United States – 14 June 2025 (9/10)
I really enjoyed my 5 night stay at Hotel Milton. My room was a lovely surprise; it had a private terrace with table and chairs and a lounger, and an abundance of blooming star jasmine which smelled so good. The room was very spacious, especially for a European hotel. There is an outdoor patio area where you can eat and drink. While I did not eat at the hotel, they had a blackboard special every night that included a glass of wine and I felt it was reasonably priced. The bed was so comfortable. The location was wonderful. It is not in a main tourist area of Rome, but there was an abundance of restaurants, lounges, gelato stores, and mini markets within a 2 block radius. Additionally, it is directly across the street from the Manzoni metro station. There are two bus stops right outside the hotel also, one on each street of the intersection. Getting around was a breeze. I used both the metro and the buses multiple times and had no problems. Depending on the time of day and day of week, taxi to the Termini train station took 10-25 minutes. Also, if you are interested in touring the Domus Aurea (Nero's Golden Palace), it's walking distance- about 15 minutes. I highly recommend it, I enjoyed it a lot more than the Colosseum, but reservations are a must and it is not open every day. There was a very enjoyable little "snack bar" right across the street (same side of street as the metro) that served breakfast, lunch, dinner, and wine, as well as having items such as bottled water, soda, and snacks for sale. It was a great breakfast option that I used every morning. The neighborhood was quiet and I felt safe walking around it, as a single woman (until my friends arrived on day 4) It was so enjoyable staying in a part of town where there are not tourists everywhere and the restaurants are authentic and filled with Italians. I highly recommend Hotel MIlton for its rooms, patio, and for its neighborhood.
What could be improved: Some of the front desk staff were not particularly friendly. For example, the front desk clerk seemed appalled when I arrived at 9:00 am and very definitely told me that I was too early for 2:00 pm check in. However, I was not asking for early check-in. I had just arrived on a train from Florence and simply wanted to drop off my luggage before heading out on a full day of booked tours, and I believe I had said as much in my reservation request. This one particular employee seemed to be pained by my being there and I always felt like I was being a bother (asking to have luggage stored on day 1, asking for a cab to be ordered) I thought it was me but when my friends arrived, they began referring to him as Mr. Snippy.Great location… – Jose from Australia – 8 June 2025 (8/10)
Location! And the staff.
What could be improved: In the shower area – the water spatters all over and spills to outside of the shower area. The glass panel/cover should be extended way further to prevent water splattering all over. Wet toilet floor is not safe. Not worth the price , – Abdul from United Kingdom – 23 May 2025 (7/10)
Good location, close to most attractions , good house keeping
What could be improved: On a busy road , continuous noise of traffic at night.
No lock on bathroom door, no hooks in bathroom to hang clothes,
Breakfast cold and soggy , feels like prepared a day before, not much choice , no change in menu over five days , empty plates after 8:30 amExcellent stay, great food and really clean. – Kelly from United Kingdom – 12 May 2025 (9/10)
Breakfast was excellent and the green lounge on an evening was a lovely place to sit with a drink. The food on an evening was lovely and Niel the barman was a fantastic guy.
What could be improved: Nothing we didn't like.Ok but expensive – Thomas from United States – 30 April 2025 (7/10)
Room was spacious
What could be improved: We asked for a 5am wake up call and it didn’t happen making us late to the airportPerfect stay in Rome – Lourenco from Portugal – 13 April 2025 (8/10)
All was perfect and as expected. The rooms are good, and the WC and shower also good.
Lovely stay in a great hotel. – Treena from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (8/10)
Excellent location, directly opposite Metro station which took us direct to all major attractions. 5 minute walk from Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano.
Room was spotlessly clean. Perhaps could do with a bit of updating but was fine for our 3 night stay.
Excellent selection at breakfast, though hotel could probably benefit from another coffee machine as always a queue.
Staff were friendly.
Great stay and would definitely book Hotel Milton again!Comfortable place in city center – Dieter from Switzerland – 5 April 2025 (7/10)
Nice room with a huge, comfortable bathroom. Close to colosseum and other attractions. Rather touristic.
