Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Medici? It’s one of those places that looks pretty standard from the outside – just another white building on Via Flavia – but once you’re inside, there’s this old-school Roman charm that actually works. I mean, sure, it’s a 3-star place, so don’t expect marble everything, but honestly the location alone makes it worth considering. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Termini Station (which sounds terrible but isn’t), and here’s the thing locals know – Via Flavia is one of those quiet residential streets that tourists usually miss, so you get this nice buffer from the chaos.

The rooms are… well, they’re Roman hotel rooms, which means smaller than you’d expect but thoughtfully laid out. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re so close to the train station. The AC actually works (not always a given in older Roman buildings), and the breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but proper espresso and fresh cornetti, which is honestly all you need before heading out to argue with other tourists at the Colosseum. The staff behind the front desk genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood, too. When I asked about avoiding the crowds at Santa Maria Maggiore, the guy gave me this whole spiel about timing and which entrance to use that you’d never find in a guidebook.

Here’s what sold me on the place, though – it feels like actual Rome, not tourist Rome. You’ll hear Italian conversations in the hallway, smell real cooking from the apartments upstairs, and when you step outside, you’re on a street where people actually live and work. The walk to Repubblica metro is maybe eight minutes, Castro Pretorio is even closer, and if you’re into that whole “authentic neighborhood trattoria” thing, there are at least three places within two blocks that don’t have English menus plastered outside. Is it perfect? No – the elevator is one of those tiny European boxes that fits you and your luggage if you’re friendly with your luggage, and the WiFi gets a bit spotty on the higher floors. But for the price point and the location, especially if you’re planning to actually explore the city rather than just Instagram the famous bits, Hotel Medici does exactly what it should do. It gives you a clean, comfortable base that feels connected to the real city, not some sanitized version of it.

  • Great stay in Rome and close to the public transportation hub. – Alex from United States – 21 June 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was located a little far off the sites, but close enough to public transportation that it was great. Lots of little restaurants and places to eat. Friendly staff and large rooms.

What could be improved: configuration of bathroom a little odd.

  • Very good – Deepika from India – 10 June 2025 (8/10)

Nice European style property in the city centre. Just 15 mins walk to main station. Very friendly staff. Had good 2 night stay and was safe for solo female travellers 🙂

  • Great stay in Hotel Medici – Karen from Ireland – 7 June 2025 (8/10)

Hotel was a good location for us, staff very helpful and friendly, beds were comfortable

What could be improved: As a family of 4 competing for the bathroom, would have been handy to have a mirror in the bedroom part to help alleviate the queue !

  • Good – Mohand from Saudi Arabia – 19 May 2025 (7/10)

What could be improved: The bed wasn’t comfortable at all

  • Great hotel – Nicole from United Kingdom – 22 March 2025 (9/10)

Stayed in a family room, spacious and clean. Housekeeping came every day. Done a great job. Toiletries supplied and fridge with drinks in nice touch. Breakfast available for 10e if not booked it. It was like continental, croissants, cereal, toast juice etc. staff lovely. Fabio on reception most helpful and friendly. Real asset to the place. Location was ok, 20 mins walk to Trevi about 10 to bus station.

What could be improved: Only downside was there are no kettles in rooms had to buy one.

location was very good, near railway station, metro and bus stops. cleanliness and humble front desk staff.
