Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Marc’Aurelio? It’s one of those places that feels refreshingly honest about what it is. Tucked away on Via Gregorio XI in the Aurelio district, it’s not trying to be some glossy five-star palace, but it absolutely nails the things that actually matter when you’re exploring Rome. The 4-star rating feels spot-on – comfortable without being pretentious, and honestly, that 7.9 guest rating makes perfect sense once you’ve stayed there.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Rome a bit. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto the Spanish Steps, but here’s the thing – Aurelio is where you get to breathe a little. It’s properly Roman, with local cafés where they know your order by day three and tiny alimentari shops that smell like fresh bread and aged cheese. The metro connections are solid (you’re not far from Cornelia station), and I mean, you can get to the Vatican in about fifteen minutes without dealing with the tourist circus that surrounds those central hotels. Plus – and this is huge – parking is actually manageable around here, which anyone who’s driven in Rome will tell you is worth its weight in gold.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that most guests were there to experience Rome, not just hide in their rooms. They’re generous with local recommendations, and not the obvious ones either. The woman at reception pointed me toward this incredible trattoria on Via Baldo degli Ubaldi that I never would have found otherwise – the kind of place where the menu changes based on what’s good at the market that morning. The rooms themselves are comfortable in that understated Italian way; clean lines, decent space, and blessed quiet at night. You know how some Roman hotels feel like you’re sleeping inside a traffic jam? Not here. The double-glazed windows actually work, and the neighborhood settles down nicely after dinner hours. I mean, it’s not luxury, but the beds are proper comfortable and the bathrooms are modern enough that you’re not wrestling with temperamental plumbing after a long day of walking cobblestones. The breakfast spread is solid too – real espresso, fresh cornetti, and they don’t give you that sad continental breakfast treatment that makes you question your life choices.

Reviews

  • Good – Joana from North Macedonia – 2 July 2025 (7/10)

It was clean, comfortable and okay for the price in the season.

What could be improved: I don’t think it was as good as it can be for the money, as well as for the four stars it has.

  • A great hotel. – Richard from Australia – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

the room was cleaned emaculately every day. The staff at reception were very friendly and helpful, even the maintenance staff were very helpful!!! The breakfast was well presented with enough variety, plus friendly waiter service.

What could be improved: The shower at certain times of the day had only warm water, still this is only a small issue!!!

  • Short but sweet stay – Rhodora from United States – 25 May 2025 (9/10)

Clean hotel. Nice and quiet location. There’s a good Italian restaurant called Fraschettari where we had our dinner, about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. I liked that they have a variety of fruit offerings at breakfast. Staff are friendly and helpful.

What could be improved: Pillows are very thin and they only provided one per guest

  • Good weekend in safe area for international tennis and vatican city – Marica from Italy – 12 May 2025 (8/10)

Great location in a safe area of Rome.
You have a metro station 10 min walking.
Great gated parking with cameras and we were able to leave the car there for an extra day after our check in.
    Good continental breakfast.
Staff was helpful and very kind.
Room and bathroom are renovated, shower is great, hairdryer old but does its work; big room with a King size bed. Complimentary water in the fridge.

What could be improved: A little old the breakfast room and old style keys, only one pillow but it was late and I didn’t ask for a second one; sleept pretty well anyways.

  • Good value, clean, comfy and great staff. – Phill from United Kingdom – 7 April 2025 (9/10)

The location is about a mile or so from the Metro but once on that, its easy to get everywhere & Vatican is just 2 stops. Taxis are good too and reasonable. Staff are really friendly & helpful. Every request was dealt with no problem. Nice breakfast. Good for couples. Would recommend 👍

  • Superb – Jozef from Slovakia – 26 March 2025 (9/10)

Excellent breakfast, rich selection, quiet location of the hotel.

  • Good – Ema from Croatia – 25 March 2025 (7/10)

Everything was fine, the hotel looks nice and the staff was nice.

What could be improved: The windows in the room were locked and we couldn't open it so it was a little suffocating.

  • It was good. – Sherry from United Arab Emirates – 6 January 2025 (8/10)

Hotel was comfy. Breakfast was good. Could introduce more items to make it interesting. Toilet was a blessing. Courteous staff.

What could be improved: Strict for check out timings.

  • Superb – Adrian from United Kingdom – 6 November 2024 (9/10)

It's a big place with helpful staff and easy parking.
    Good breakfast.
    Clean and tidy.

  • It’s was just good – Gleidis from United States – 17 October 2024 (7/10)

It’s was clean and the bed was comfortable

What could be improved: It was too far from the center. Very very far.
