Hotel Locarno Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Hotel Locarno feels like stepping into someone’s incredibly stylish Roman home — if that someone happened to have impeccable taste and a serious art collection. This five-star gem sits on Via Della Penna in the Spagna district, and honestly, the location alone makes it worth considering. You’re literally in the heart of Rome, but tucked away on a quieter street that feels refreshingly removed from the tourist chaos. The lobby has this warm, intimate vibe with vintage furnishings and rich fabrics that immediately tell you this isn’t your typical chain hotel.
The Perfect Roman Address
I mean, you really can’t ask for a better spot than this. You’re a five-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, and the Trevi Fountain is basically around the corner — but here’s the thing, you’re not dealing with the crowds right outside your door. The Spagna metro station is close enough that you can easily reach other parts of the city, though honestly, most of Rome’s major sights are within walking distance. What I love is that you’re surrounded by actual Roman life — there are local cafés, wine bars, and those little shops that Romans actually frequent, not just tourist traps.
Staying Here
The rooms have this effortless elegance that feels authentically Italian rather than trying too hard. Each room is individually decorated with antique pieces and rich textiles, so you’re not getting that cookie-cutter hotel experience. The beds are seriously comfortable — I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you actually forget you’re not at home. What surprised me was how quiet everything is, considering you’re in central Rome. The bathrooms are well-appointed without being over-the-top, and there’s something refreshing about the understated approach to what could easily be flashy.
Morning Fuel
Breakfast here is actually impressive — they’ve got everything covered with Continental, Italian, Full English, and even vegan and gluten-free options. You know what I appreciate? They don’t just throw together a buffet and call it a day. The Italian options feel authentic, and the coffee is the real deal. You can eat in their charming breakfast room or, weather permitting, outside in their little garden area. It’s one of those moments where you remember why you came to Rome in the first place — good food, beautiful surroundings, and that relaxed Italian approach to starting the day.
Why Guests Love It
There’s parking available, which anyone who’s driven in Rome will tell you is basically a miracle. But beyond the practical stuff, this place just gets the balance right between luxury and livability. Couples especially seem to fall for it — and I get why. It’s romantic without being cheesy, central without being chaotic, and elegant without feeling stuffy. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they’re great for recommendations that go beyond the obvious tourist spots. When you’re paying five-star prices, you want to feel like you’re experiencing the real Rome, not just visiting it — and Hotel Locarno delivers on that promise.

Best place to stay in Roma. There are lot of 5 stars and luxury hotels in Roma but Hotel Locarno offers a level of luxury and comfort in combination with an incredibile friendly, kind and truly welcoming team which makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE. The way they all take care of the guests it is not just professionally perfect it is personally special, it is authentic and honest. We have been coming for 10 years and I hope we can come for the next 10!

Bar is excellent; they also serve food there which looked very good. We had a junior suite which was nice but expensive and the shower was a bit basic. Staff are lovely and very friendly. Breakfast was excellent

The staff is incredibly friendly. The ladies at the reception are always ready to help and check if you need anything else. Our daughter received special attention, which was heartwarming 🙂 The rooms are beautifully decorated in a traditional style, and the bathroom – I absolutely loved it!
The breakfast was delicious, beautifully presented, and had a great variety of options for both adults and children.
I was also surprised with a birthday greeting, which made me feel even happier.
