Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Laurentia? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street in San Lorenzo that most tourists never find – and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special. I mean, you’re staying in one of Rome’s most authentic neighborhoods, where actual Romans live and work, not just another tourist bubble near the Colosseum. The hotel itself is unpretentious in the best way – it’s a proper 3-star place that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but the staff actually seems to care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth, the lobby has this lived-in feeling that’s way more comfortable than those sterile chain hotels, and my room was clean with decent air conditioning (trust me, you’ll appreciate that in summer).
Here’s the thing about San Lorenzo that the guidebooks don’t really capture – it’s got this incredible energy, especially in the evenings. You’ll walk out of Hotel Laurentia and within two minutes you’re surrounded by these fantastic little trattorias and wine bars that locals have been going to for decades. I stumbled into this place called Il Sorpasso just around the corner – completely by accident – and had one of the best meals of my trip. The neighborhood gets lively at night, but not in an obnoxious way, more like… well, like a real Italian neighborhood should feel. And during the day, you can actually walk to places like the Baths of Diocletian or Santa Maria Maggiore without fighting through crowds of tour groups. The metro connection is solid too – Termini station is close enough that you can easily get anywhere in the city, but far enough that you’re not dealing with all the chaos and noise that comes with staying right next to the main train station.
What really sold me on this place was the little things. The front desk guy (I think his name was Marco?) actually drew me a hand-sketched map showing the best route to avoid tourist traps when walking to the Forum. The breakfast isn’t fancy, but it’s proper Italian – good espresso, fresh cornetti, none of that sad continental buffet stuff. And the rooms are quiet at night, which honestly surprised me given how vibrant the neighborhood is. I stayed there in late September, and the whole area had this perfect balance of being alive but not overwhelming. Sure, the decor isn’t going to win any design awards, and the elevator is one of those tiny European ones that barely fits two people, but that 8.1 rating makes total sense – it’s the kind of place that just works. If you want to experience Rome like you actually live there for a few days, rather than just checking famous monuments off a list, Hotel Laurentia gets you exactly where you need to be.

Reviews
Great staff, food and location – Yvonne from Australia – 17 June 2025 (9/10)
Great service, breakfast was lovely. Accommodation was on the older side but it was good value for money nice and quiet location
We were only there a couple of days and for that it was very good! – Isabelle from United Kingdom – 8 June 2025 (8/10)
It was clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. Taxis readily available to take us where we wanted to go. A lovely restaurant just outside the property with delicious food. Bustling young neighbourhood with bars and restaurants.
What could be improved: The beds and cushions were quite hard. The shower cubicle was very small to get in and out. The shower door was slightly loose and coming off. It was smaller than expected and further away from the sights than we thought.Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Very spacious family room with excellent restaurants close by. – Rachel from United Kingdom – 31 May 2025 (8/10)
Breakfast was good. Family room was excellent, big and perfect for the 4 of us. It was cleaned with fresh towels each day. Location was good too, we were able to walk or tube to all the sites. Reception staff were lovely, very helpful and cheerful.
What could be improved: Plain croissants would have been good. We didn’t like the sauce / jam that was added to the croissants. Also some warm / hot eggs would have been good. Otherwise it was nice.Great stay for our family adventure – Gem from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (9/10)
The property was easily located near bus and tram stops and waking distance from termini stations (15 minutes) property is spacious and clean with a lift and bar with breakfast room and lovely quiet sitting area
The property is located in the student university district with lovely restaurants and eating areas with bars a plenty the vibe is busy outside the property and can be noisy at night time some little supermarkets along the road the room was a twin room which was warm due to the aircon law not being on in April but having the window open during the day cooled it down.
Bathroom was great with toiletries restocked salt and fresh towels too. Room was cleaned daily
What could be improved: Room was a little warm because windows couldn’t open at night due to outside noise and the fridge didn’t work but didn’t affect our stay
Coffee making facilities would have been nice or an iron in the room tooEmployees were great – Dennis from United States – 7 May 2025 (9/10)
Service was excellent
What could be improved: NothingVery good – Alice from United States – 5 May 2025 (8/10)
Cosmo at the front desk was a wealth of information. The location was great. We were thrown by all the graffiti, but it's actually a nice area.
What could be improved: The very active nightlife was evident when we opened our window for air. We were told there is no a/c before May 15.Very good – Tadej from Slovenia – 3 May 2025 (8/10)
The hotel is close to the main station, it is nice and clean. The breakfast is satisfactory, there could be more choice. The staff is friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: During our stay, suspicious people gathered in the immediate vicinity of the hotel in the evening and at night, disturbing the peace of the night by shouting loudly and breaking bottles. I would not feel safe outside at night.Very good – André from Portugal – 25 April 2025 (8/10)
Staff was very nice, super helpfull and always with a nice smile.
What could be improved: Breakfast could be improved, better quality products like fresh fruits ready to eat, better bread and different types of eggs.Affordable and safe accommodations – Robin from United States – 30 March 2025 (9/10)
Great location- less than 1.5 – 2 miles to Colosseum. Staff was amazing! Very helpful. Good breakfast buffet in the morning.
What could be improved: Parking can be a challenge and can’t drive into the area after 11 pm on some nights. It is a college town so people out until 3 am on the weekends – may be an issue for light sleepers.Check in at 14 not 12 as in the advertisement (but the rest Ok). – Juan from Germany – 5 March 2025 (7/10)
They promised the check in at 12, but they do not accomplish
