You know what struck me first about Hotel Hiberia? It’s tucked away on Via XXIV Maggio, which honestly sounds more impressive than it looks – it’s actually this narrow little street that most tourists walk right past without noticing. But that’s exactly why I loved it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain (I mean, you can hear the crowds from your window during the day), yet somehow this place feels like a secret. The building itself has that worn Roman elegance thing going on – not Instagram-perfect, but authentic in a way that makes you feel like you’re staying in someone’s well-loved family home rather than a tourist trap.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star in Rome, which is to say they’re smaller than Americans might be used to, but everything works and it’s clean. Actually, our room had these heavy wooden shutters that blocked out the morning light completely – a godsend when you’re dealing with jet lag. The staff really makes this place though. The guy at reception (didn’t catch his name, but he had this great mustache) knew the neighborhood inside and out. He steered us away from the overpriced restaurants right by the fountain and pointed us toward this little trattoria on Via del Lavatore where locals actually eat. The Wi-Fi was surprisingly good, and the shower had proper water pressure – honestly, after staying at some places in Rome where the shower feels like a gentle mist, this was a relief.

What really sells me on Hotel Hiberia is the location without the chaos. You’re close enough to walk to the Pantheon, Spanish Steps, and obviously Trevi in under ten minutes, but Via XXIV Maggio doesn’t get the same foot traffic as the main tourist streets. I actually enjoyed my morning coffee at the little café next door – the barista there makes a mean cappuccino and doesn’t give you dirty looks for ordering one after 11am like some places do. The area gets busy during the day (it’s Rome, after all), but evenings are surprisingly peaceful. No air conditioning complaints here either, which can be hit or miss in older Roman hotels. For the price point and that 8.9 rating, it honestly delivers. It’s not going to wow you with luxury amenities, but if you want a comfortable base in central Rome without paying Spanish Steps prices, this is your spot.

  The location was great within walking distance to many of the main attractions. The staff went above and beyond to assist us and make sure we enjoyed our stay. The beds were comfy, AC worked great and bathroom sufficient. It was only my daughter and I and we stayed for 2 nights and it was perfect for us. Too much longer of a stay and the room we were in may have been too small but they had other room sizes.

  The breakfast was great! The rooms and property were clean. It was a great location to walk to most attractions. We did choose to Uber on the day we went to the Vatican. Rafael was super helpful, as was the rest of the staff but we saw Rafael the most. They set up our pick-up from the airport and called cars for us a few times. The restaurant next door was so good! We 100% will stay here again if we return to Roma!

  Great location. The BEST staff. So helpful and nice. Be sure to have them help you with taxis and transportation. They are Amazing!
