Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Flavia on Via Flavia, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best travel experiences come from those spots that don’t try too hard to impress you. The building itself has that classic Roman charm without being stuffy about it, and the entrance actually feels welcoming rather than intimidating (which, let’s face it, some of Rome’s fancier hotels can be).
What really won me over was the location – I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Villa Borghese, which most tourists don’t realize until they’re already there. The Via Veneto area gets a bad rap for being too touristy, but honestly, staying right on Via Flavia puts you in this sweet spot where you can duck into the park for morning runs or evening strolls, then pop back out for dinner without dealing with the chaos around the Trevi Fountain. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel during the day – you’ll see actual Romans walking their dogs and grabbing coffee, not just tour groups. Plus, there’s a little alimentari around the corner that stays open late, which saved me more than once when I needed water or snacks after long museum days.
The hotel itself is what I’d call “comfortable without pretense.” The rooms are clean and well-maintained, though don’t expect anything Instagram-worthy – it’s more about function than flash. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which is rarer than you’d think. When I asked about getting to Trastevere for dinner, the guy at the desk didn’t just point me toward the tourist route – he told me about the bus that cuts through the center and drops you right where you want to be. The breakfast is typical Italian hotel fare (decent coffee, basic pastries), but there’s something satisfying about starting your day there before the city gets too hectic. One thing to note – if you’re a light sleeper, ask for a room facing away from the street. Via Flavia isn’t exactly a highway, but Roman traffic has its own rhythm, especially in the early morning when delivery trucks start making their rounds. The 7.8 rating feels about right to me – it’s the kind of place that does what it promises without any surprises, good or bad. You’re not paying for marble lobbies or rooftop pools, but you’re getting a solid base in one of Rome’s more authentic neighborhoods, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Reviews
Would stay again, for sure. – Samantha from United Kingdom – 29 June 2025 (9/10)
Staff were great, cooler and safe in room were a bonus. Breakfast room was varied and tasty, cooler rear facing bedroom. Location good, free map, quite far from collosseum though. But Near Main Railway.
Would definitely stay again. And I recommend it.
What could be improved: No long mirror in bedroom, sink plug was broke, they did a very quick temporary fix though, house keeping was beds, bins and towels, but didn't refill teas etc, no milk (reception helped with this) and didn't take dirty glasses away. Room air con only goes down to 20.Wonderful break in Rome – Jonathan from United Kingdom – 11 May 2025 (8/10)
Central location. Staff very helpful.
Just a nice stay. Would book it again. – Roderick from Netherlands – 27 April 2025 (9/10)
Location was amazing. Restaurants nearby as well.
What could be improved: Not much?Very good – Christos from Greece – 31 March 2025 (8/10)
Our room was spacious. It was very clean and we had new clean towels every day. The staff was very kind and extra helpful. The location is very central and easy to move around.
What could be improved: The breakfast needs improvement. The coffee machine didn't make good coffee. I would like to have more options.
I think the price is high for a 3star hotel but this year all the prices have risen due to the jubileeHad a lovely stay at Hotel Flavia. – Raluca from Romania – 16 February 2025 (9/10)
The location is pretty close to the main Rome train station (Termini – 15 minutes walk). The breakfast was the same every day, but there were plenty of options for you to choose, typical italian brakfast I’d say. The facilities were good and the staff was great, very helpful. The hotel is also near lots of bus stations and metro.
In general – very positive experience! – Kamen from Bulgaria – 11 February 2025 (8/10)
The location is perfect – there are several bus stops very close and a metro station on 5-10 minutes walking. The room was big, comfy with almost everything available. The breakfast was okay – nothing special, but certainly good enough.
What could be improved: The water in the shower was warm on the first day, but got progressively colder and colder with every day. Another very small thing – there were no slippers in the room. But to be noted – we never complained to the staff about any of this, so maybe the issues are resolvable if you ask.Very good stay stay for the price – Matteo from United States – 10 February 2025 (8/10)
The staff
What could be improved: The bedGreat place to stay! Every place was reachable by walk. Colloseum only 20 min away 🙂 – Anohina from Latvia – 24 January 2025 (9/10)
Location was amazing. All of the places were reachable by walk.
Breakfast was good.
Room was clean.
What could be improved: Ventilation of the room could be better.Lovely stay! – Hind from France – 21 January 2025 (8/10)
The staff was so nice! Igor was our receptionist and he answered all our requests! It was a lovely stay. The room was clean and cozy. The area is very calm and safe and only 10min away from downtown.
We definetely recommand and we will stay again in this hotel if we come back to Roma.
What could be improved: The walls are not soundproof, you can be disturbed in the nightCharming hotel – Deirdre from Ireland – 9 December 2024 (8/10)
Nice location and a great breakfast
What could be improved: Check in was slow for our group and the bedding was not enough; a duvet is more comfortable than the bedspread provided
