Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Hotel Des Artistes Roma? The name actually makes sense once you step inside. I mean, it’s not some random artsy branding – there’s this genuine creative energy buzzing through the place that feels authentic, not forced. The lobby has this warm, lived-in vibe with local artwork on the walls, and honestly, it reminded me more of a boutique guesthouse than your typical 3-star hotel near Termini Station. And speaking of location – Via Villafranca is one of those side streets that locals actually use, about a 7-minute walk from the main station chaos. You’ll dodge most of the tourist crowds but still grab any train or metro line you need.

The rooms are where this place really surprised me. I was expecting the usual cramped Roman hotel situation (you know how it is with these older buildings), but the space felt thoughtfully designed. The bed was actually comfortable – not just “eh, it’ll do for two nights” comfortable, but properly restful. What I loved was how quiet it stayed despite being so close to Termini. The windows do their job, and the street itself doesn’t get much through traffic after evening rush hour. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no upselling or tourist trap recommendations, just genuine suggestions about neighborhoods worth exploring. The staff seemed to actually know Rome beyond the Colosseum-Vatican circuit, which honestly makes such a difference when you’re trying to eat somewhere decent or find that perfect morning coffee spot.

Here’s the thing about staying near Termini – most people think it’s sketchy or inconvenient, but honestly? It’s practical as hell. You’re ten minutes from San Lorenzo (where university students hang out, so great food and nightlife), walking distance to Monti when you want that trendy Roman neighborhood vibe, and the metro gets you anywhere in twenty minutes or less. Hotel Des Artistes Roma feels like it was designed for people who actually want to experience Rome, not just check off the major sites. The 8.6 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be luxury, but it nails everything that matters. Clean, comfortable, genuinely helpful, and positioned perfectly if you plan to explore beyond the obvious tourist zones. I’d absolutely book it again, especially for the price point in this part of the city.

  • Good and very convenient. It’s my second time at Des Artists – Mirian from United Kingdom – 22 June 2025 (9/10)

Very helpfull and friendly staff. Good room, clean with all needed for a comfortable stay.
Very convenient location close to Termini

What could be improved: Not many options of good and clean restaurants in the surroundings of the hotel.
Important to plan your dinner in another area in Rome before returning to hotel

  • Nice hotel with good breakfast near Termini station. – Petr from Czech Republic – 17 June 2025 (9/10)

Good location, some 10 min. walk from Termini station, 3 min. from metro Castro Pretorio. Quiet street. Friendly staff, great room, clean and large enough. Very good breakfast.

What could be improved: Nothing. I highly recommend this hotel.

  • Brilliant stay in this well-located hotel. Attentive, helpful staff. Roof terrace. Great breakfast. – Edward from United Kingdom – 17 June 2025 (10/10)

Really polite, helpful staff. Great room in clean and central hotel, 10 min walk to Termini railway station. Peaceful room. Fantastic breakfast. Best hotel we have stayed in, in Rome.

What could be improved: View was of inner courtyard, but very quiet.

  • We loved it – Oana from Romania – 16 June 2025 (10/10)

We stayed for a night only, but we really enjoyed it. It’s very close to the metro station Castro Pretorio and about 15 mins by foot from Termini station. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I loved that we could check in early (for a price). Breakfast food was also really good and diverse.

  • Exceptional – Ana from Serbia – 14 June 2025 (10/10)

The location is amazing. Maybe 10 minutes on foot from the Termini station. Also, a lot of bus lines that go through out the city are at a walking distance.
The staff are very friendly and always there to help. We stayed for just two nights and already after the first night a nice cleaning lady came and changed the towels and tidied up the room. We even got a room call from the reception to check if we like and have everything we need.
    I highly recommend this hotel

  • Superb – Hayley from United Kingdom – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

    Goid location. Clean. Good breakfast

  • Comfort after a long day of visit – İrem from Turkey – 4 June 2025 (10/10)

The location was very good, easy to walk from Termini, had bus stops on a short walking distance. The terrace was big and very comfortable, open until 11pm. All staff were very friendly and helpful all the time.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Rome is amazing and this is a great budget option, if you do not mind being out of the centre – Hilary from United Kingdom – 3 June 2025 (8/10)

Lovely staff, clean hotel. Room was larger than average and the bed was very comfy. Everything well maintained.

Nice quiet street near the train station which meant easy access from the airport.

What could be improved: Only downsides were the breakfast was rather basic and the location out of the centre meant we had about a 30 min walk every time we went to the centre. In a cab it was much quicker, however most of the roads were blocked due to celebrations happening in the City. Not the hotel's fault, but it did leave us feeling quite far out from the hustle and bustle!

  • Great location if you want to travel around Rome – Dorianne from Malta – 27 May 2025 (8/10)

A very nice hotel located just 8 minutes away from termini. Area is very quiet. Clean and comfortable room

What could be improved: Basic breakfast
