Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel Cristoforo Colombo on that wide stretch of Via Cristoforo Colombo, I wasn’t expecting much. The Torrino area isn’t exactly the Rome you see on postcards, you know? It’s more residential, sort of tucked away from the tourist madness, which actually turned out to be exactly what I needed after three days of elbow-to-elbow crowds at the Colosseum. The hotel sits in this quiet pocket where you can actually hear yourself think, and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels like actual Romans might live nearby instead of just visiting.

What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their stuff about getting around the city. The guy at reception – I think his name was Marco – didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He actually pulled out a pen and marked the best gelato place within walking distance (it’s this tiny spot called Giolitti Express about ten minutes away), and more importantly, he explained the bus routes in a way that made sense. You’re about a 15-minute ride to EUR, which honestly has some underrated restaurants if you’re tired of the same old trattorias, and the metro connection gets you to central Rome in maybe 25 minutes. I mean, sure, you’re not stumbling out your door onto the Spanish Steps, but you’re also not paying Spanish Steps prices or dealing with that chaos every time you want to grab a coffee.

The rooms themselves have that clean, modern feel without being sterile – sort of like a nice apartment your organized friend might have. Good shower pressure, which you don’t always get in Rome, and the air conditioning actually works (trust me, this matters in August). I stayed on the fourth floor and it was properly quiet at night, even though you’re on a main road. The breakfast spread was solid too – nothing fancy, but decent coffee and enough variety that you won’t get bored if you’re staying a few days. Honestly, what impressed me most was how everything just worked smoothly. Check-in was quick, the WiFi didn’t cut out every five minutes, and when I needed to extend my stay by a night, they sorted it out without any drama. Sometimes that’s all you want from a hotel – to not have to think about it. For the price point and that 8.5 rating, I get why people keep coming back here. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and plan your days instead of spending half your time dealing with hotel nonsense.

Reviews

  • Exceptional – Ilia from United Kingdom – 30 June 2025 (10/10)

Position very accessible for buses and quite area with free parking. Nice service in breakfast. Great swimming pool on site.

  • Nice place with welcoming staff, but the pool was closed and there was no Smart TV. – Emara from Italy – 30 June 2025 (8/10)

    – All staff members were friendly, which is what I liked most.
    – The bed was comfortable, and the room was equipped with all the necessary amenities, including a spacious bathroom.

What could be improved: – The swimming pool was closed, which was quite disappointing. Even if it had been open, it would still have been small.
    – The lack of a smart TV was a great disappointment.
    – One downside of the breakfast was the lack of fresh juice.

  • Very nice clean – Kristy from United States – 25 June 2025 (10/10)

  • Very good – Sorimachi from Australia – 24 June 2025 (8/10)

Inclusive of breakfast. Helpful and professional staff overall. Close to bus stop to connect to train station, and to shopping centre.

What could be improved: Only flaw was in retrieving our stored luggage when we had to remind them after 15 mins that we were still waiting.

The Cristoforo Colombo hotel was great both in terms of conditions as well as location. It is very clean, the food is good and offer variety at the breakfast; it is located at only 20mins from city center. The stuff, (amongst which Daria, Marco, Ale) was also very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also a nice place to relax after visiting the center – a lovely experience!
