Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Hotel Colosseum? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet side street in Monti, which honestly feels like stumbling into Rome’s best-kept secret. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum – and I’m talking about the real deal, not some tourist trap version of “close to attractions.” Via Sforza is one of those narrow cobblestone streets where you can still hear your footsteps echo at night, but somehow the hotel manages to keep things surprisingly quiet inside. The building itself has that classic Roman charm without trying too hard – sort of weathered in the right way, if that makes sense.
What really gets me is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between authentic and comfortable. The rooms aren’t huge (this is Rome, after all), but they’re thoughtfully laid out with these little touches that show someone actually thinks about what travelers need. The bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be wrestling with ancient plumbing, and the beds are genuinely comfortable – something you can’t take for granted in a lot of European hotels. The staff knows their stuff too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out whether to walk to Termini or grab the metro at Cavour. They’ll tell you straight up that the walk to the station is uphill on the way back, but it’s totally doable if you’re not dragging massive luggage.
Here’s the thing about staying in Monti – you’re right in the middle of where Romans actually hang out. There’s this incredible little wine bar called Il Sorpasso just around the corner (though it gets packed after 8 PM), and the morning espresso scene on Via dei Serpenti is absolutely perfect for people-watching. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that you just don’t get near the Spanish Steps or Trevi Fountain. Sure, you’ll still hit those spots, but you’ll come home to streets where locals are walking their dogs and having actual conversations, not just posing for Instagram. The hotel fits right into that vibe – it’s not flashy, but it’s genuine and well-run. For a 3-star place, honestly, it punches above its weight. You’re getting solid comfort, a location that locals would actually choose, and that rare feeling of staying somewhere that understands Rome as a real city, not just a museum.

Fabulous! – Kelly from United States – 7 July 2025 (10/10)
Starting before our arrival Tomasso arranged car service from Rome FCO airport to the property for $70. It was perfect. Then we arrived and Tomasso is on duty, and gives us a fabulous room. It had a balcony with a view of the Colosseum. Amazing! Breakfast was top notch with great service and bonus they had a roof top bar with an amazing bartender named Lucas. The hotel was clean, located within walking distance to many sought after sites. We just loved it, and will be back. 10 Stars for Tomasso and the front desk crew, breakfast crew, and the Amal who helped us with our luggage. Roof Top bar was extra special. We had an early morning flight and they made a breakfast to go and even had espresso ready for us at 3:30 am. Book here you won't be sorry.

Other than ice, the hotel is fantastic. Breakfast was very good. – Pearce from United States – 4 July 2025 (10/10)
Close to most of the hop on hop off buses, and the Colosseum. The breakfast I serve in the morning was very good. Had a wide selection.
What could be improved: There was no ice machines on the property that we could find. We asked the front desk for ice and they gave us a bowl full. Don’t plan on watching TV because the TV is like a 14 inch TV looks like a computer monitor.Nice stay – Ann from United States – 3 July 2025 (10/10)
We liked the location, the roof top Lounge, and the helpful staff.
