Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Hotel Canova? It’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street in Monti that honestly feels like a secret — Via Urbana is one of those addresses where you walk past thinking “wait, there’s a hotel here?” The building itself has that worn Roman elegance thing going on, where the facade looks like it’s been watching the neighborhood evolve for decades. And Monti, well, it’s sort of the perfect Rome neighborhood if you actually want to feel like you’re living there instead of just passing through. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum (which is ridiculous when you think about it), but you’re also surrounded by these tiny wine bars and vintage shops that locals actually frequent.
The hotel itself is properly three-star — nothing fancy, but everything works and it’s got character. The rooms are smaller than what Americans might expect, but that’s just Rome for you, and honestly the location more than makes up for it. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, despite being so central. Via Urbana doesn’t get the tour group foot traffic that hits the main drags, so you can actually sleep with the windows open and just hear the occasional Vespa puttering by. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood — not just the obvious tourist spots, but they’ll point you toward the little osteria around the corner where Romans go for lunch, or tell you which mornings the local market sets up. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too, none of that overly formal hotel theater.
Here’s the thing about staying in Monti — you end up walking everywhere because it’s all so accessible, but in a way that feels natural rather than touristy. From Canova, you can wander down to the Forum before the crowds hit, or duck into Santa Maria Maggiore when you need a quiet moment. The Cavour metro stop is maybe three minutes away when you need to get somewhere faster, and there’s this whole network of little streets radiating out that are perfect for just getting lost in. I stayed there in September and the 8.2 rating makes complete sense — it’s not trying to be something it’s not, but what it does (comfortable base in an amazing location with people who actually care) it does really well. The morning light hitting those old buildings on Via Urbana, the smell of espresso drifting from the bar downstairs, the way you can slip out for an evening aperitivo and be back in two minutes — that’s the kind of stuff that makes a trip memorable, you know?

Excellent small hotel, well situated for exploring Rome’s major attractions. – Catherine from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is very well situated, within walking distance of most places of interest and Termini station. The area is vibrant with many bars & restaurants close by and there is a handy mini supermarket next door to hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly & helpful, you felt you had their personal attention.
What could be improved: There was some noise at night from the lift next to one of our rooms but it wasn’t a big deal.Nice stay in Central Rome – Vincenzo from Italy – 17 May 2025 (8/10)
Located close to Termini and in the Monti neighborhood. Ideal to visit many of the city attractions. Room was nice.
What could be improved: Elevator and spaces generally quite smallWould stay here again – Özge from Turkey – 5 April 2025 (9/10)
I loved staying here.
The staff were incredibly nice and helpful all the time.
Check-in and check-out processes were very smooth.
Location is also great it is located in a good district and its close to many landmarks and also the train station.
I would love to stay here again if I ever come back to Rome again.
What could be improved: Bathroom was big but the shower was a bit small and at night it took a bit to get the hot water.
The minibar wasn’t working maybe because of the renovations.
Other than that, there are no problems everything was nice.
My only recommendation would be to have kettle and water to make coffee or tea in the rooms and that’s it.Superb – Liudmila from Lithuania – 23 February 2025 (9/10)
The location is super. Many shops and restaurants are nearby. Easy to see Rome sightseeing by foot. Staff was friendly. The room was clean and cosy.

We had a warm welcome, it was clean, there was a fridge, safe and kettle. The property was in a good location too. There’s a supermarket next door for supplies and we used the roof terrace a couple of evenings and had a bottle of wine and a picnic.
