Hotel Description

You know what surprised me most about Hotel Aventino? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Via Di San Domenico – where you can actually hear birds chirping instead of the usual Rome traffic chaos. I mean, you’re still in the heart of the city, but the Aventino district has this almost village-like feel that most tourists never discover. When I first walked up to the entrance, honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place, but sometimes those assumptions are dead wrong.

The thing about this hotel is that it gets the fundamentals right without trying to be something it’s not. The rooms are clean and comfortable – not fancy, but you’ll sleep well, and the air conditioning actually works (trust me, that matters in Roman summers). What really won me over was the staff’s attitude; they’re genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions. The woman at reception gave me these insider tips about avoiding crowds at the Colosseum that I never would’ve figured out on my own. The breakfast isn’t going to change your life, but it’s solid Italian fare, and you can sit outside in their little courtyard area when the weather’s nice. I actually spent more time there than I planned, just watching the neighborhood wake up.

Location-wise, this is where Hotel Aventino really shines, though you might not realize it at first glance. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Spanish Steps, but you’re a short walk from some of Rome’s most underrated spots – the Orange Garden with those incredible sunset views, the keyhole at the Knights of Malta (seriously, look it up), and the ancient Santa Sabina basilica that’s usually empty while everyone’s fighting crowds at St. Peter’s. The metro isn’t right outside your door, but the bus connections are actually pretty good once you figure them out. Plus, there’s something to be said for staying in a neighborhood where you’ll grab coffee next to actual Romans heading to work rather than just other tourists. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare if you’re driving – this is Rome, after all – but the hotel staff will point you toward the nearest options. Overall, it’s one of those places that grows on you, especially if you appreciate being slightly off the beaten path while still having easy access to all the must-see stuff.

  • Gem of a stay in quiet area – Tony from United States – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

The hotel is an absolute gem in a quiet residential area of Rome. The rooms are just as described and pictured. The front desk, bellhop and kitchen staff were all incredibly helpful and welcoming.

Breakfast was fantastic with meat/cheese options, pastries, hard boiled eggs, various breads, water, coffee, soda – all fantastic. Could sit in the dining area or back patio (beautiful setting). On days we left before breakfast, they even prepared a to-go bag for us!

Special thanks to Justin who helped us daily with his kind words, willingness to help, and making sure we are comfortable. Front desk called taxis for us and were usually only a 3min wait to get one. They even arranged and ensured we had taxi for going back to airport.

My wife and I absolutely loved our stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

What could be improved: My only “negative” comment is that the tub is very high, so stepping over after a shower can be challenging for some – not sure if other rooms have walk in showers. Ours was tub/shower combination

  • Exceptional – Najlae from Canada – 26 June 2025 (10/10)

The staff were very helpful and always smiling and welcoming. Everything was available, breakfast was delicious with a variety of choices.
I would definitely go back when I'm in Rome again.

  • Highly recommended hotel in a beautiful quiet location. – Laura from United Kingdom – 25 June 2025 (10/10)

Really friendly welcome upon arrival. This hotel is a little gem. It's in an accessible part of Rome yet in a quiet peaceful location surrounded by greenery. The nearby restaurant which the hotel uses for guests serves absolutely amazing food. The room exceeded expectations. Had an outdoor patio to enjoy an evening drink outside. Can't praise this hotel enough.

What could be improved: Nothing at all.

  • Lovely hotel situated in a garden in a quiet and convenient part of Rome – David from Canada – 10 June 2025 (9/10)

    Friendly concierge. Well decorated rooms

What could be improved: Minor things. Didn’t replenish soap or water bottles. Cold water tap ran warm

  • Exceptional – Edee from Canada – 31 May 2025 (10/10)

Fantastic location, quiet retreat yet within walking distance to colluseum, transit and other attractions. Awesome staff, wonderful breakfast included. All in all a place I would return to and recommend.

  • Lovely and secluded little hotel in Aventino – Paolo from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

Nice boutique hotel tucked away in Aventino, perhaps the most peaceful area in Rome.
Staff very friendly, and I was given the top room which may or may not be what people look for, but I really liked it. Access through the terrace and an amazing view over the trees.
Of course it's also a few minutes walk from a cluster of churches and basiliche (s. Anselmo , s. Alessio…) but also Testaccio for food and night life, and public transport options in via Marmorata

What could be improved: No complaints at all!

  • Lovely boutique hotel in nice neighborbood close to colusseum. – Edee from Canada – 7 May 2025 (10/10)

Location close to things we wanted to see, being within walls of "original Rome", able to walk to colusseum. We liked being in small "boutique hotel" in nice neighborhood rather than large hotel in city. The staff very helpful and friendly. The breakfast included was excellent. We will return.

What could be improved: Only downside was the bed was too firm for us, but that is only our personal preference. The fact that bed was clean, nice linens, and very clean room and bathroom still made it great for us.

  • Beautiful affordable place in a great location, with a satisfying breakfast. – Fabio from Brazil – 6 May 2025 (10/10)

Location and easy walking to everywhere, also close to comute (bus etc.).

What could be improved: Missing a clothing steamer but good in general.
In the shower, which was good, there is some maintenance needed on the selector knob on the panel (room 347).

  • A perfect place to see Rome – and find some calm. – John from United Kingdom – 8 April 2025 (9/10)

The Aventine is a wonderful place to say to see Rome – quiet, calm, away from the hurly burly with amazing views across the city, and yet it is very close not only to the sights/sites but also Trastevere/Testaccio. The hotel is very smart and neat and the welcome at reception was exemplary. Our room was not part of the main building but it was very smart, very clean and very well equipped. It's a great place to stay.

  • Superb – Wojciech from Poland – 7 April 2025 (9/10)

Great design, very friendly team at the reception, calmness.

What could be improved: Breakfast was not too impressive. Bread which was served was not fresh. Eggs were boiled definitely the day before.
