Hotel Description
So I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel Aberdeen on Via Firenze, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place this close to Termini Station. You know how that area can get pretty sketchy at night, right? But actually, this little spot surprised me in all the right ways.
The thing about Via Firenze is that it’s literally a 4-minute walk from the main train station, which sounds terrible until you realize it’s on the quieter side street that locals actually use to cut through to the nicer parts of town. I mean, you’re basically equidistant from the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps – maybe 15 minutes on foot to either. The hotel itself sits in this lovely old Roman building (they’re all old Roman buildings, but you know what I mean) with that classic cream-colored facade that’s been recently cleaned. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – the guy at reception actually spoke perfect English and gave me real recommendations, not just the tourist trap stuff.
What really won me over was the attention to small details that you don’t expect at this price point. The rooms are compact, sure, but they’ve been renovated recently with decent air conditioning that actually works – crucial if you’re visiting in summer when Rome turns into a furnace. The beds are comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with a sore back, and honestly, the Wi-Fi was faster than my last hotel in Milan that cost twice as much. There’s this little courtyard area where you can sit with your morning coffee and plan your day without dealing with the street noise from Via Nazionale. Speaking of noise – I was worried about being so close to the station, but the windows are surprisingly good at keeping out the urban chaos. Well, except for the occasional siren, but that’s just Rome being Rome.
The breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare, nothing fancy, but they do have decent coffee (not easy to mess up in Italy, I suppose) and the pastries are fresh. What I really appreciated was that the staff seemed to genuinely care about the place – you can tell when people take pride in their work versus just going through the motions. They helped me figure out the best metro routes and warned me about which areas to avoid after dark. The whole neighborhood comes alive during the day with little shops and cafes, but it’s not overrun with tourists like you’d find near the Pantheon.
Look, this isn’t going to be your luxury Roman holiday spot, but if you want a clean, comfortable base that doesn’t eat your entire budget and puts you within walking distance of basically everything important, Hotel Aberdeen hits that sweet spot. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of place that does the basics really well without trying to be something it’s not. Plus, you’ll save enough money to actually enjoy those €15 glasses of wine at the rooftop bars instead of spending it all on accommodation. Just book early if you’re coming during peak season because word seems to be getting out about this little gem.

Excellent. I would stay there again and recommend to others. Very good value for money- Thank you. – Andrew from United Kingdom – 20 June 2025 (8/10)
Extremely pleasant helpful staff. My room and bathroom were very clean -spotless. The whole hotel was in a similar condition. Excellent location.
What could be improved: My room on the first floor was small and rather dark as it overlooked an enclosed courtyard.
The breakfast was good except for the scrambled eggs which were always overcooked and looked quite inedible. I suggest cooking smaller amounts more regularly during the breakfast period. Cappuccino made on request.
Perhaps more information available regarding getting around Rome, buses, metro tram, frequency, tours available, suggestions about cultural activities etc.
It would have been nice to have a more communal area where we could chat with other guests.Perfect place to sleep while exploring Rome – Sandra from United Kingdom – 10 June 2025 (8/10)
This is really just a place to sleep, which is all I needed. I was upgraded to a double from a small single, which was much appreciated. The room was on the ground floor front of street but not too affected by noise. Comfortable bed and all the expected facilities. Softest towels I've ever had in a hotel.
Location close to Repubblica is convenient for metro A and easy walking to Trevi area. Wish I hadn't taken a €20 taxi from Termini as I found it less than 10 minutes to walk on my return.
