Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Hotel 77 Seventy-Seven – it’s one of those places that tries really hard to be artsy, and honestly? It mostly pulls it off. The building itself sits right on Via Depretis, which is actually perfect if you know Rome at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum, but here’s the thing nobody tells you – you’re tucked away just enough that you won’t hear tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM.

The whole “Maison D’Art Collection” name sounds a bit pretentious, I know, but they’ve actually committed to the concept. Each floor has this rotating gallery vibe going on, with local artists’ work covering the walls. Some of it’s genuinely good, some… well, let’s just say art is subjective. The rooms themselves are clean and modern – not huge, but this is Rome, so you weren’t expecting a suburban hotel suite anyway. What I really appreciated was the attention to details like proper reading lights (you’d be surprised how many hotels mess this up) and blackout curtains that actually block out the streetlights from Via Depretis.

The location is where this place really shines though. You’re in Monti, which means you get to feel like you’re living in a real Roman neighborhood instead of just tourist central. There’s this little wine bar called Il Sorpasso about two blocks away that serves the best cacio e pepe I’ve had outside of Trastevere – definitely ask the front desk for directions because it’s tucked into a side street you’d never find on your own. The staff, by the way, actually seems to know the area beyond just the major monuments. When I mentioned I was looking for good vintage shopping, the guy at reception immediately pointed me toward Via del Boschetto instead of just shrugging and handing me a tourist map.

Now, I won’t lie – the 7.4 rating makes sense when you consider a few things. The elevator is tiny (and I mean really tiny – good luck if you’re traveling with big suitcases), and the breakfast situation is pretty basic. It’s continental style, nothing fancy, though the coffee is decent enough. The neighborhood can get a bit lively on weekend nights too, especially with the bars around Cavour metro station, but honestly, if you’re the type who goes to bed at 9 PM, you probably weren’t planning to stay in central Rome anyway.

What really won me over was how the place feels authentic without trying too hard. The lobby doubles as a gallery space, and I actually saw locals come in just to check out the current exhibition – that’s when you know a hotel is doing something right. Plus, you’re a quick walk to Termini Station, which makes day trips to Florence or Naples totally doable. The staff helped me figure out the regional train schedules, which saved me a good chunk of change compared to the high-speed trains.

Bottom line – if you want something with character in a great location and don’t need luxury amenities, Hotel 77 delivers. Just pack light for that elevator.

  • Agréable stay, staff was 8/10 friendly – Gladys from Ireland – 28 June 2025 (8/10)

    Fair, not much continental

  • Excellent stay – Marc from Germany – 20 June 2025 (8/10)

    Friendly staff!

What could be improved: The coffee machine for breakfast.

  • Great location, lovely stay at Hotel 77 – Jasmin from United Kingdom – 13 June 2025 (8/10)

Great location for top tourist spots and landmarks. Property hosts a rooftop buffet breakfast bar/terrace and heated pool/spa area. Hotel smelt amazing!

What could be improved: Very minor but the walls are thin so will hear outside traffic until late.

  • Very good – Olan from Ireland – 9 June 2025 (8/10)

    Super location

  • Good value hotel close to Rome centre attractions. – Gavin from United Kingdom – 12 April 2025 (8/10)

Good location to see all of the major attractions of Rome. Everything walkable including the train station. Some really good restaurants nearby. Small/slow lifts but stairs are fine!

  • Lovely friendly and welcoming staff, spa and gym was really nice! – Molly from United Kingdom – 30 March 2025 (6/10)

Nice room, small but had everything you’d need. Bed wasn’t that comfortable, noise of traffic was really bad when window was open, couldn’t have aircon below 30c until April time and room was very hot. Breakfast wasn’t great at all, mini bar wasn’t free which you’d expect from a 4*. Didn’t think it was worthy of 4* and expensive for what you got. 20 min walk to Trevi which is fine if you don’t mind walking

  • Pleasant – Carmelo from United Kingdom – 27 March 2025 (6/10)

Amazing staff! Superb location, walking distance from everywhere! Unfortunately, very noisy during the night (particularky, as like me, you get a room in the first floor)

  • very pleasant stay in a fabulous city. – Mark from Costa Rica – 20 March 2025 (8/10)

The breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of food. Cooked breakfast, cold continental breakfast, fruit etc. Rooms are clean, but rather on the small side. Restaurant was very good but expensive. Superb location with most of the main sites within walking distance. We didn't use the pool or spa facilities, but they looked very good, although the pool was over chlorinated whilst we were there.

What could be improved: Only minor niggles-not worth mentioning.

  • Very good – Letitia from United Kingdom – 17 March 2025 (8/10)

The room was very clean and the maid service was very good. The staff were friendly and so helpful.

What could be improved: Nothing, all good.

  • I wish the hotel to proper and spread kindness and love to all guests. – Elene from Georgia – 11 March 2025 (6/10)

The Pool was wonderful and very clean. We had a beautiful experience there especially after having a long day of walk in Rome, the stuff member who took care of the Pool was very polite. Our Room was super clean, the bed was comfy, The lady who cleaned the rooms was very polite and super professional 💕The location of the hotel was great !

What could be improved: Some of the Stuff members at the reception were impolite, did not make us feel very welcome and at times were rude. The vibe in the breakfast room from the stuff members was also off… not very welcoming. The white male with a shaved head at the reception was most unpleasant. I think all guests should be treated equal with respect and kindness. Also the toilet seat in our room was smaller than the actual toilet so as women it’s a very unpleasant feeling… I would have it changed to fit the toilet. Overall the hotel has a potential to be a great hotel… but the stuff need to start acting respectfully towards their guests.
