Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Hanky Suite? The name makes it sound quirky – maybe even a bit silly – but this place is actually sophisticated in all the right ways. I mean, you’re right on Via Roma Libera, which honestly most tourists haven’t discovered yet, but it’s this perfect little street that feels authentically Trastevere without the circus of people you get down by Santa Maria.
The suites themselves are spacious in that rare Roman way – like, you can actually open your suitcase without rearranging the furniture. The design strikes this nice balance between modern comfort and respecting the neighborhood’s character. No fake rustic nonsense, just clean lines and good lighting (thank god, because so many Rome hotels leave you squinting in dim yellow bulbs). What I really appreciated was the attention to sound – the windows actually block out street noise, which matters because Trastevere can get lively, especially on weekends when locals are out celebrating life. The air conditioning works properly too, and if you’ve spent a Roman summer in a place without decent AC, you’ll understand why I’m mentioning this.
Location-wise, you’re about a seven-minute walk to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, but here’s the thing – you can slip out your door and grab incredible cacio e pepe at places where Romans actually eat, not just tourist traps. There’s this little alimentari around the corner where the owner will chat with you about wine if you’re interested, and the morning coffee ritual at the nearby bar feels genuinely neighborhood-y. Honestly, the whole area comes alive differently than central Rome – it’s got this village-within-a-city vibe that makes you feel like you’re experiencing something real. Getting across the river to the main sights is easy enough (though I’d skip taxis during rush hour and just walk across Ponte Sisto – it’s beautiful anyway), and coming back each evening feels like returning to your own little Roman life rather than just another hotel room. The staff seems to actually know the neighborhood well, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is. They pointed me toward a wine bar I never would have found otherwise, and when I needed a pharmacy late one evening, the front desk guy knew exactly which one stays open past 9 PM. Small things, but they matter when you’re somewhere for more than just a quick visit.

The people were so kind and friendly at Hanky Suite with fantastic English skills. We were welcomed when we arrived and Maria very kindly booked us a taxi for our return to the airport.
The room was clean and serviced daily, there was Netflix so when it absolutely tipped down on one of the days we stayed we could chill whilst we dried out for a couple of hours (if only we had taken one of the available umbrellas in reception).
We were able to walk everywhere that we planned to visit whilst in Rome and the Trastevere area was a hive of activity both day and night with plenty of gorgeous restaurants and bars.
We visited the botanical gardens nearby and that turned out to be one of our favourite things done. Luckily for us after a day of rain we then had a beautiful day of sun and the room temperature could be adjusted for both extremes. We loved our stay.Yuchen from Ireland (10/10)

This was an amazing place to stay in the Trastevere area of Rome. Maria was incredible at making my husband and I feel like we were at home. She helped us with navigating the city transportation and even scheduling taxis for us. There is so much to do around this area which was super nice for our stay!

We had the best time staying here! Maria was so helpful with everything and gave us the best recommendations to delicious restaurants. Everything was clean and tidy and comfortable, which we needed after exploring the city on 30,000+ step days! Thank you so much for an amazing stay, Maria!
