Hotel Description

You know what? GuestHouse Martin is one of those places that actually gets the Rome experience right. I mean, it’s tucked away on Viale del Vignola in the Parioli district, which honestly feels like a completely different world from the tourist madness around the Colosseum. The street itself is lined with these gorgeous umbrella pines, and you’re basically living like a Roman for a few days – which is exactly what you want, right?

The thing that struck me first was how quiet it is here. I’m talking proper quiet, not that fake “peaceful oasis” nonsense you read about hotels that are actually next to construction sites. Parioli is where well-heeled Romans actually live, so you’ve got tree-lined streets, elegant apartment buildings, and the kind of neighborhood cafes where the barista remembers your order. Villa Borghese is literally a five-minute walk away – and I mean the good entrance, not the crowded one near Spagna. You can actually jog through the park in the morning without dodging selfie sticks, then grab a proper cornetto on your way back. The hotel staff seemed genuinely surprised (in a good way) when I mentioned I’d walked over to the Etruscan Museum – turns out most guests just head straight for the Vatican shuttle bus.

What really won me over was the attention to detail that you only notice when you’re living somewhere, not just passing through. The rooms have these thick curtains that actually block out light (revolutionary concept, apparently), and the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter landing. The breakfast spread isn’t trying to be everything to everyone – it’s just really good Italian basics done right. Fresh cornetti, proper espresso, local honey that tastes like it came from somewhere specific. I overheard the owner talking to a guest about restaurant recommendations, and he was steering them away from the obvious tourist traps toward places in Flaminio where you actually need to book ahead. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to feel like you’re staying in Rome rather than visiting it. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Pantheon, but you’re a quick metro ride away (Flaminio station is close), and more importantly, you’re in a neighborhood where Romans actually want to spend time. There’s this little enoteca around the corner that I probably never would have found otherwise, and the evening passeggiata along the tree-lined streets feels completely authentic. Plus, parking is actually manageable here if you’re driving – try saying that about anywhere near the historic center. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you realize this isn’t just about thread count and marble bathrooms (though both are perfectly fine) – it’s about location, genuine hospitality, and that rare feeling of stumbling onto something special without paying resort prices for it.

Reviews

  • A pleasant stay without any problems – Peter from Italy – 18 June 2025 (8/10)

The room and external private bathroom were both very comfortable, clean and convenient. Communication with the owner was by phone, who was very helpful, and the key was available at the pizzeria nearby. We were able to leave our bags after check out which was very convenient. To get to the Metro you need to take a bus but if time is not important the location is fine.

  • Comfortable, convenient, awesome! – Adele from United States – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

Location was great! Easy access to all of Roma’s main attractions but out of the craziness and a good escape at the end of the day. Liliana was very kind and helped us with maps and recommendations too. If you’re up for walking, all of the main attractions are walkable. You can also easily find scooters nearby.

  • Good – Xianyang from China – 11 April 2025 (10/10)

The stay experience is excellent. The room is very clean and the owner Lilina is very kind and nice.

  • Lovely host and room – Catharina from Canada – 31 January 2025 (10/10)

Super clean in a lovely building. Comfortable bed and very clean room and bathroom. Heating and hot water excellent.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Worth remembering. – Jj from South Africa – 6 January 2025 (9/10)

The location is brilliant. Outside of the hustle and bustle of mid-town Rome, quiet, and next to the railway to get into town quickly. Lots of restaurants around us. All-in-all, we'd stay here again if we ever visit Rome again. We felt very safe and comfortable, as though we went "home" every evening after a long day in Rome.

What could be improved: The shower's "warm/cold" system is a bit wonky. But not a problem considering all the other benefits of location, safety, etc.

  • Great place for a short or long stay. Recomend 100% – Natalia from Belgium – 22 December 2024 (10/10)

The staff members were great, very friendly and always reachable. The room was quiet, the bed was confortable, everything was cleaned.
There were some drinks and sweets to enjoy as a quick breakfast or snack.
Even though the location is not in the center it was easy to arrive there and some stations around.

  • Exceptional – Hanna from Poland – 29 October 2024 (10/10)

Everything very good, clean and super comfy!

  • Pleasant stay – Ivan from Netherlands – 17 September 2024 (10/10)

It's a really great stay with everything you need:
    – great and friendly staff
    – clean
    – a lot of facilities including washing machine
    – covered parking which is an unusual compliment in Rome

What could be improved: – 15 minutes by electric bike to the city center, but close to Villa Borghese and Coppede.

  • I would still recommend, great place to stay in Rome – Michalina from Poland – 16 September 2024 (8/10)

It was perfectly clean and with all the facilities that you might need, including details such as toothbrush, soap or slippers. The apartment is pretty close to the public transport. Good contact with the owner

What could be improved: We didn’t have any quilt in our room, only a thin blanket. As we also didn’t really know how to use the heater properly, we were too cold to feel fully comfortable and sleep well. It must have been overlooked though as all the rest of facilities (room, kitchen, bathroom) was just perfect.

  • Exceptional – Tural from Poland – 7 September 2024 (10/10)

Room and bathroom was clean, and equipped with everything what you need, even additional things. Owner/host was so kind person. When we need smth, she always was ready to assist. Based on my all experience in booking.com, this place is the first place that i can fully recommended.

What could be improved: TBH, I liked everything. But if i need to say smths which i didnt like. I can say transportation to that location. Sometimes, you can face city transportation problems and it can take time to reach to the place because of distance. But overall, you can reach to metro and some main places with tram 2 easily from this place.
As a suggestion, only i can say one small thing about balcony. Barrier of balcony looks lower a bit. If there can be additional security, could be more better.
