Hotel Description

You know what? I walked past Guest House Amaranto Romano about three times before I actually found it on Via Nazionale – not because it’s hidden, but because I was expecting something flashier for a 4-star place. Honestly, that turned out to be part of its charm. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly Italian way, tucked between a gelato shop and one of those tiny tabacchi stores where locals buy cigarettes and lottery tickets. The moment you step inside though, you get it – this isn’t trying to be the fanciest hotel in Rome, it’s just confidently doing its own thing really, really well.

The location is actually perfect if you’re the type who wants to feel like you’re living in Rome rather than just visiting it. Yeah, you’re a five-minute walk from Termini Station (which sounds touristy but is honestly super practical), but more importantly, you’re right in the thick of real Roman life. There’s this fantastic little trattoria called Da Valentino maybe two blocks away that I stumbled onto – the kind of place where the waiter argues with you about ordering cappuccino after lunch, and you end up loving him for it. The street itself gets busy during the day with people heading to and from the station, but it quiets down surprisingly well at night. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional Vespa – this is Rome, after all – but nothing that’ll keep you awake unless you’re an incredibly light sleeper.

What really got me about this place was how the staff seemed to actually care about Rome as a city, not just their hotel. The woman at reception (I think her name was Giulia?) didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map – she sat down for ten minutes and marked her actual favorite spots with a pen. Places like the weekend market at Porta Portese and this tiny church near the Pantheon where you can see Caravaggio paintings without fighting crowds. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a well-run 4-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, and AC that actually works during those brutal August afternoons. Nothing revolutionary, but everything done right. I particularly loved the little balcony in my room that looked out over the street – perfect for morning coffee and people-watching, though you might want to bring earplugs if you’re staying during the summer when Romans seem to have all their loudest conversations at 11 PM. The 8.8 rating makes total sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the Hotel de Russie, but for the price point and the genuine Roman experience, it’s honestly hard to beat.

Excellent location , 5 mins walk to the Termini station, 15 mins walk to the colosseum. Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps within walking distance too. Beautiful building with old world lift up to the accomodation. Wonderful reception staff (Chiara) and overall hospitality is excellent. Lovely breakfast requested from a menu brought to your room to enjoy in the morning. I travelled with my 11 year old and she loved Rome and I think the guest house played a part in her experience.

What could be improved: Nothing to report. A lovely stay!
