Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about the Grimaldi Comfort Guest House? The elevator ride to the sixth floor – yeah, it’s a bit of a journey up, but honestly, that’s when you realize you’re about to get some seriously good views over Rome’s rooftops. I mean, being up on piano 6 (that’s the sixth floor for us non-Italians) in the Portuense district isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, but that’s actually part of what makes this place special.
The Portuense neighborhood is one of those areas where you get a real feel for how Romans actually live. You’re not dodging selfie sticks every five minutes, and the morning sounds drifting up from Via Francesco Grimaldi are authentic – coffee machines hissing, delivery trucks making their rounds, maybe some animated Italian conversation from the street below. The guest house itself feels more like staying at a well-organized friend’s apartment than a typical hotel. The owners clearly know what travelers actually need – I’m talking about things like decent water pressure (surprisingly hard to find in some Roman buildings), reliable WiFi that doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to video call home, and rooms that stay cool even during those brutal August afternoons.
What really sold me on this place was how it strikes that perfect balance between comfort and location. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Colosseum, but you’re genuinely well-connected to the rest of Rome. The Trastevere area is just a quick bus ride away, and honestly, after spending your days walking around the tourist-packed centro storico, coming back to this quieter corner of the city feels like a relief. Plus – and this is something you’ll appreciate if you’ve ever tried to navigate Rome’s traffic – parking here is actually manageable. The neighborhood has that residential feel where you can find a spot without circling for twenty minutes. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you spend a night here, because it’s those little details that add up: the way check-in actually happens when they say it will, how the rooms smell fresh instead of that musty old-building scent you get sometimes, and the fact that the beds are genuinely comfortable (not just decent for the price). It’s the kind of place where you end up extending your stay if you can swing it.

The room was very clean and well-maintained. The bed was incredibly comfortable – I haven't slept so well in a long time.
But the best part was the interaction with the owner, who helped me every step of the way and even recommended a delicious restaurant.Queen from South Africa (10/10)
