GH Colosseum Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to GH Colosseum, you immediately get that “I’m really in Rome” feeling — and I mean that in the best way possible. The building sits right on Via Di San Giovanni In Laterano, which honestly sounds intimidating until you realize you’re basically a few minutes’ walk from the Colosseum itself. This three-star hotel doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but what it does, it does really well. The entrance has that classic Roman charm without being overly fancy, and the staff genuinely seem happy to see you arrive.

Location That Actually Matters

Here’s the thing about Rome — location is everything, and GH Colosseum absolutely nails it. You’re in Rione Monti, which is one of those neighborhoods that feels authentically Roman rather than touristy (well, mostly). I mean, you can walk to the Colosseum in about five minutes, but you’re also surrounded by little trattorias and wine bars that locals actually frequent. The Cavour metro station is right there when your feet give out from all the cobblestone walking. What I really appreciated was being able to duck back to the hotel between morning sightseeing and evening dinner — something you can’t do when you’re staying way out in the suburbs.

The Rooms

The rooms are exactly what you’d expect from a well-run three-star place in central Rome — clean, comfortable, and efficiently designed. Don’t expect huge spaces (this is Rome, after all), but everything you need is there. The beds are actually comfortable, which isn’t always a given in European city hotels, and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t be fighting with ancient plumbing. Air conditioning works properly too, which you’ll definitely appreciate if you’re visiting during summer. The windows open onto the street, so you get that authentic Roman soundtrack of Vespas and animated conversations — bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

The Daily Rhythm

Breakfast is served in a bright little room downstairs, and while it’s not going to change your life, it’s perfectly adequate — good coffee (this is Italy, so that’s non-negotiable), fresh pastries, and enough variety to fuel your morning adventures. The real charm of staying here is how easily you slip into a Roman routine. You can grab an espresso at the corner bar, wander over to check out the Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano (which most tourists skip but is absolutely stunning), then circle back through the neighborhood’s narrow streets discovering little shops and cafes.

Why Guests Love It

What really sets this place apart is that perfect balance of being right in the thick of things without feeling like you’re staying in a tourist trap. Couples especially seem to love it here — and I can see why, since there’s something romantic about being able to stroll to dinner through ancient Roman streets, then walk home past illuminated monuments. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out, so they can point you toward that perfect little osteria or tell you the best time to visit nearby sights. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing Rome rather than just checking it off a list.

  It was so close to all the attractions. We could walk everywhere. Our host was so amazing and helpful. He gave us a map of Rome and showed us must sees. He also was kind enough to book us a cab as we were leaving. The room was clean, comfortable, cool and quiet. I would definitely stay here again!

  It's very close to the colosseum. There are plenty of restaurants and mini markets in the area. Safe neighborhood. It was easy to go there from termini, and the owner helped us with the busses. Also, he gave us a map of the city center and useful information. There is no breakfast, but you will find a coffee machine and coffee capsules, which is very good.
