Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Garner Hotel Rome Aurelia, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard IHG property tucked away in the Aurelio district. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t try too hard to impress you end up being exactly what you need. This spot sits on Via Aurelia, which is one of those ancient Roman roads that actually means something (it goes all the way to France, if you’re curious), and while it’s not in the postcard-perfect center, that’s sort of the point.
The thing about staying in Aurelio is that you’re living like Romans actually live – there’s a proper neighborhood feel here that you just don’t get near the Colosseum. The hotel itself is clean and modern without being sterile, and the staff genuinely seems to care about helping you figure out the city. I mean, the front desk guy spent ten minutes drawing me a map to show the best route to Vatican City, which is actually pretty close by foot if you don’t mind a walk. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable and the shower had decent pressure (always a gamble in Rome, honestly). What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night; Via Aurelia can be busy during the day, but the hotel’s set back enough that you’re not hearing traffic at 2 AM.
Here’s what makes this place work: it’s about a 15-minute walk to the Vatican Museums, and there’s a bus stop right outside that connects you to the metro system. The real gem, though, is the neighborhood around it – there’s this little trattoria called Da Enzo about three blocks away where locals actually eat (you’ll know it’s good because there’s no English menu), and a bakery that opens at 6 AM if you’re the type who likes to start early. The hotel breakfast is decent enough, but honestly, grab a cornetto from the bakery instead. One thing to note – parking can be tricky if you’re driving, but the hotel has a garage, which in Rome is basically like finding gold. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me; it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does everything right without any major complaints. If you’re looking for something reliable where you can actually get some sleep and easily reach both the Vatican and central Rome without paying centro storico prices, this is your spot.

Reviews
Good – Michael from Denmark – 10 May 2025 (7/10)
Staff was fantastic positive and service minded. New updated rooms. Great breakfast and OK restaurant. Not the largest menu, but the food served was good and so was the service.
Very good service from the front desk, when there was an issue with the reservation.
What could be improved: The road in front of the hotel is pretty well trafficked, actually very busy. Metro station 15 min away,Good – Jonalyn from Saudi Arabia – 7 October 2024 (9/10)
The location is a little bit far from the center
What could be improved: The staff specially the filipina women inside the kitchen. We are asked many times if we booked and paid the breakfast wherein the receptionist already confirmed about it. She is really loud talking to her colleagues i think they are fighting in front of the customer which is not really a good image for the property.I Thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend. – Stephen from United Kingdom – 6 October 2024 (9/10)
Excellent value and idealy situated for all amenities. Very friendly staff and very happy to help. Would I stay there again. Definitely yes.
What could be improved: A bit of a walk to the metro and buses and on a very busy road. But seriously, not a major problem.Very comfy place with nice vibes and people working there. – Arkadiusz from Malta – 14 September 2024 (9/10)
Very friendly hosts at reception.
Breakfast with good options of salty and sweet products, natural yoghurt and fresh croissants were my favourites. Good selection of fresh fruits and salads.Superb – Gwiazdoń from Italy – 30 April 2024 (9/10)
The staff was always present, even at midnight, and the buffet for breakfast was really good. Also the hotel has a metro stop nearby which is really helpful and the metro line A passing through there is comfortable and a lot less crowded in comparison to line B: circa 7 min to get to the metro stop and 10-15 min more to get to the main attractions.
What could be improved: The carbonara I got once for dinner was a bit salty but that's the only cons.Superb – Sadat from Kosovo – 22 January 2024 (9/10)
Friendly staff, very clean, spacious room, comfortable bed.
What could be improved: Breakfast could be improvedGood – Peter from United Arab Emirates – 16 July 2023 (7/10)
It was a decent place for a Rome visit. A little out of town but goos value. Rooms are bit small but that's not an issue if you do Rome properly. The beds are comfy and the balconies nice for a little sit out. The breakfast is minimal selections but tasty, warm and has very good coffee. Good start to the day. Bus stop right outside or metro a 10 minute walk. Easy to access everywhere.
What could be improved: Nothing else to do in the hotel except sleep and have breakfast. Fridge and AC in the room didn't work great.Superb – Konstantin from United States – 27 April 2023 (9/10)
Great location, away from city center, but only 15 minute walk, 3 bus stops, to the metro to go anywhere. A few very nice places to dine nearby, or even more choices within walking distance. Breakfast was a great add on, made each day easy to start. Clean rooms, no issues with any amenities. Not a new place at this point, and nothing fancy, but great for the value.
What could be improved: A bit older, away from the happening of the city life, IF that's important. Otherwise really not much to complain about.Value for money – Stephen from United Kingdom – 4 March 2023 (8/10)
Room was nice
What could be improved: Shower did not drain well, despite telling them, it was not fixed quickly. Having to hand the key in each time I went out.Good value for money. – Lumi from Romania – 25 February 2023 (8/10)
It is clean, nice, close to bus station
What could be improved: The shower was hard to use, the street noise was quite strong during the night.
