Hotel Description

You know what hit me first about Garibaldi Suites? The address alone – Via delle Carrozze literally means “street of the carriages,” and honestly, you can still picture horse-drawn carriages clattering down these narrow cobblestones. I mean, you’re maybe 200 meters from the Spanish Steps, but tucked away on this quieter side street that most tourists just walk past without noticing. The building itself has that understated Roman elegance thing going on – no flashy signage, just a discreet entrance that makes you feel like you’re in on some local secret.

The suites themselves are surprisingly spacious for Rome (and I say that as someone who’s stayed in plenty of Roman “double rooms” that barely fit the bed). What really works here is how they’ve managed to keep the historical character – think exposed beams and original tile work – without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in these older buildings. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and while you can definitely hear the morning bustle from the street below, it’s more charming than annoying – kind of like having your own Roman soundtrack. Though if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff knew their stuff about the neighborhood. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but like, where to grab the best cornetto in the morning (there’s this tiny place on Via del Corso that opens at 6 AM), or that the little alimentari around the corner stays open late when you need emergency wine and cheese. The location is honestly perfect for exploring on foot – you can walk to the Pantheon in maybe ten minutes, Trevi Fountain in five, and if you’re feeling ambitious, the Vatican is totally doable as a morning stroll. Plus, and this is key, you’re close enough to the action but far enough from the absolute circus that is the Spanish Steps area during peak tourist hours. I watched the crowds from my window around 2 PM one day and felt genuinely grateful to be staying somewhere with a bit of breathing room. The whole experience just felt more authentic somehow – like staying in Rome rather than staying in Tourist Rome, if that makes sense.

Reviews

  • Great place to stay, would highly recommend it! – Rutger from Netherlands – 2 July 2025 (8/10)

Obviously the location if you’re looking for smack in the middle of the center. I had a lovely suite with a very comfortable bed and nice clean bathroom.

What could be improved: The communication could be a bit better, I needed to find the way to communicate through WhatsApp and the response was not always immediate which would be nice if you’re at the door and it’s 37c out…

  • We loved our stay, location amazing, staff so helpful. Location to Metro is just metres away. Friendly staff to help us – Lore from Australia – 2 July 2025 (10/10)

Location, great size room for Rome

  • Easy, Clean and accessible Flats by the Spanish Steps – Gina from Austria – 28 June 2025 (10/10)

Location by the Spanish steps is great but you know that this is a busy location. The room was quiet though and one did not hear the street sound so much. Having the air conditioner was great as we were in Rome on a hot weekend. The receptionist was kind and very agreeable. The breakfast was simple and it was a great expresso shot every day. Highly recommend this place.

What could be improved: The use of a lift from the ground floor entrance when one has large suitcases would be helpful.

  • Would stay here again. – Paul from Ireland – 19 June 2025 (8/10)

Great location and staff. Their restaurant is very good. Very close to metro and Spanish steps and great location to walk that part of the city.

  • Exceptional – Abdo from United Arab Emirates – 14 June 2025 (10/10)

Barbara, Thank you for your assistance and hospitality:)
    Location Top!

  • Superb – Johan from Belgium – 26 May 2025 (9/10)

    Great location
    Excellent room
    Friendly and helpful staff
    Good breakfast
    Great bed and pillows!

What could be improved: Can be a bit noisy at night when trash is being collected

  • A very enjoyable stay. – Andrea from United States – 25 May 2025 (10/10)

I love staying in the Spanish Steps area and this was perfectly located. The rooms were clean and quiet and spacious and the owners really nice. The restaurant at the bottom of the Garibaldi stairs was excellent. Breakfast was a cappuccino, croissant with marmalade and a spremuta of orange juice, all thoroughly enjoyed and Ihad fried artichoke, saltimbocca, cream di scampi for various dinners, all terrific.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Best location! – Shuhao from China – 8 May 2025 (10/10)

Good location and nice host. It’s very safe and comfortable to live here.

  • I would definitely come back! – Isadora from Brazil – 10 April 2025 (10/10)

Everything was better than expected. Barbara is really nice and up to helping in everything we asked for. I had trouble finding the right door to enter the building, but even then I had total assistance and it ended being no bummer at all. Room was tidy, comfortable and spacious. Location couldn’t be better either: close to every tourist point, luxury stores, with a classic architecture neighborhood. The cafe/ restaurant in which we had breakfast is really nice, and we even had dinner there. You should try the cacio & pepe!

Staying there made our trip to Rome amazing.

  • We had a pleasant and comfortable stay. – מלי from Israel – 20 March 2025 (9/10)

The suites are in a great location near the Spanish Steps. Barbara was attentive to our every request and on the last day, due to an evening flight, she allowed us a free late check-out. The stay was comfortable and pleasant!
