Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Roman hotels, and Fresh House Fori Imperiali hits that sweet spot you’re always hoping for but rarely find. The moment you duck into Vicolo del Buon Consiglio – honestly, good luck pronouncing that unless you’ve got some Italian under your belt – you realize you’ve stumbled onto something special. This tiny street in Monti feels like a secret that locals have been keeping to themselves, and you’re maybe fifty meters from the Colosseum without dealing with the circus that is Via dei Fori Imperiali. I mean, you can literally walk to the ancient stuff in your pajamas if you’re into that sort of early morning adventure.
The hotel itself feels more like staying at your sophisticated Italian friend’s place than some cookie-cutter chain. The rooms have this clean, modern vibe – nothing fancy, but everything works and actually looks good together. What struck me most was how quiet it gets at night, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re basically in the heart of ancient Rome. The staff seems to genuinely care about your experience rather than just going through the motions, and they’ll point you toward the good gelato spots (not the tourist traps) without you even asking. The breakfast situation is solid – proper coffee, obviously, and they don’t skimp on the pastries. Pro tip: if you’re planning to hit the Colosseum early, you can grab breakfast around 7 AM and beat the crowds by a good hour.
Here’s what really sold me on this place – you’re positioned perfectly for the real Rome experience. Monti neighborhood has this authentic, lived-in feel that’s getting harder to find in central Rome. There’s this little wine bar around the corner where you’ll hear more Italian than English, and the morning market on Via del Boschetto is where actual Romans shop for groceries. You know what I love? You can walk to Termini Station in about fifteen minutes when it’s time to leave, but you’d never know you’re that close to the chaos. The only minor thing – and I’m really reaching here – is that the street can be a bit tricky to find your first time, especially if you’re dragging luggage. But honestly, once you figure it out, you’ll appreciate being tucked away from the main drag. If you’re looking for that perfect balance of location, comfort, and authentic Roman atmosphere without breaking the bank, this place delivers. Just don’t tell everyone about it – some of us want to keep coming back to our little secret in Monti.

Reviews
Excellent apartment right by the Coliseum and the forums – Mónica from Netherlands – 6 March 2025 (9/10)
Excellent apartment close to the Coliseum and the forums. It's surrounded by nice restaurants and 5-10 minutes walking from the Coliseum. The train station is also close enough to walk from/to it.
We were 5, one of us a kid and we were super comfortable, there are 2 complete bathrooms with a shower.
All was clean and as in the photos, the table of the kitchen can be a bit small depending on how many people you are, we were fine. Our flight arrived early in the morning and they were very kind and let us in earlier.
Wifi worked great, and the living room area was super comfy after the whole day walking and climbing stairs and hills. We didn't have any problem of noise at night, we went to bed around 1 am and the restaurants were closed at that time.
We'll be definitely back to this apartment.
What could be improved: The only thing I'd say is that communication could be better, and it'd be nice to have some information in the apartment about the check-out maybe, to make it easier.
But everything worked out at the end and we didn't have any problem.
Ricardo was super nice.Would stay again – Christine from New Zealand – 27 September 2024 (8/10)
Location and two bathrooms plus 3 bedrooms
What could be improved: Needed a clothes washing machine, ironing board and a hair dryer ( there was a box but no hair dryer inside)Great location – Maryna from Ukraine – 8 April 2025 (8/10)
The apartment is located 5 minutes from the Colosseum, with convenient access to all attractions. There are many restaurants nearby, one of the restaurants is right under the apartment. The apartment has several bedrooms, two bathrooms, a wide kitchen
What could be improved: Only one bedroom is quiet, the sofa in the living room has bedbugs, so I don't recommend sleeping there because you will be bitten and itching a lot, although it is quieter than in several bedrooms. One bathroom has a very unpleasant smell, it's impossible to be in, but it's an old city, so be understandingVery good – John from Ireland – 20 September 2024 (8/10)
Good sized, clean 3 bed apartment just beside the Roman Forum.
What could be improved: Lack of separate safe storage area for bicycles.Exceptional – Quan from United States – 17 October 2024 (10/10)
The house is clean and comfort. Just 5' walking from Coloseum. Has a very good and popular restaurant right next to the building. Host is responsive.
A large modern apartment in a very central location. – Jennifer from United Kingdom – 12 September 2024 (10/10)
The central location was a great base to explore from. The rooms were large and had air conditioning and the beds were comfortable.
What could be improved: The living room was a bit hot so could do with a fan in there but that’s just a minor recommendation.Otherwise nice stay ruined by pests – Brian from United States – 27 May 2025 (3/10)
Great location, beautiful apartment, nice layout, communicative staff.
What could be improved: Despite assurances, a reviewer’s bedbug problem was not solved. Further treatment during our stay was ineffective.Très bon séjour. Appartement bien équipé, confortable et spacieux. – Maria from France – 8 June 2025 (8/10)
L’emplacement, très près des grands sites touristiques.
What could be improved: Le bruit en provenance du restaurant situé en bas.Superb – Konyar from Turkey – 9 December 2024 (9/10)
Konumu çok iyiydi. Konforluydu
Skvělá lokalita, příjemní a starostliví majitelé, výborná komunikace a příjemný byt – Klara from Czech Republic – 1 November 2024 (9/10)
Skvělá lokalita, příjemní a starostliví majitelé, výborná komunikace, velký prostorný byt (bylo nás 5)
What could be improved: doporučovala bych přidat do apartmánu myčku, mýt nádobí v tolika lidech není moc komfortní – jinak skvělé
