Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Flatinrome Trastevere Complex? The name makes it sound like some generic apartment building, but honestly, this place has way more character than most hotels in Rome. It’s tucked away on Via della Luce – which literally means “street of light” and actually lives up to that name with these gorgeous golden hour moments that hit the narrow cobblestones just right.
The thing about staying in Trastevere is that you’re sort of living like a local, and this place gets that balance right. I mean, you’re still clearly a tourist (let’s be honest), but you’re not in that bubble where everything feels sanitized for visitors. The apartments here – because they’re more like furnished flats than hotel rooms – have this lived-in quality that I actually prefer to the sterile perfection of chain hotels. The kitchenettes are legit functional, not just for show, which matters when you want to grab fresh bread from the morning market at Piazza San Cosimato (about a five-minute walk) and actually do something with it. The beds are surprisingly comfortable too – I was expecting that European firm mattress situation, but these were just right.
What really sold me on the area was walking back at night. Trastevere after dark is magical in this completely unpretentious way. You’ll hear conversations spilling out of tiny restaurants, see locals gesturing dramatically over wine at outdoor tables, and catch glimpses of TV screens flickering through apartment windows. The complex is positioned perfectly for this – close enough to Via di Trastevere (the main drag) that you can stumble home from dinner easily, but far enough down a side street that you’re not dealing with the worst of the late-night crowds. Though honestly, if you’re a super light sleeper, bring earplugs because Italian nightlife is… enthusiastic, and sound carries in these medieval streets.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but isn’t always guaranteed. They pointed me toward this tiny alimentari around the corner where the guy makes sandwiches that are basically works of art, and they knew which nights the jazz club on Via di Moro has the best musicians (Thursdays, apparently). Check-in was smooth – they met me at the building since there’s no traditional front desk, which felt more like being welcomed by a friend than the usual hotel routine. The 8.5 rating makes sense when you factor in that this isn’t trying to be luxury – it’s trying to be authentic and comfortable, and it succeeds. Plus, getting to the Vatican is genuinely easy from here, just a pleasant walk across the river, but you’re staying in the Rome that feels real rather than like a museum district.

Amazing location, very nice hosts.
Worth considering – Peter from Australia – 22 December 2024 (8/10)
The space and the location
What could be improved: A few little problems but not too bad.excellent conditions – Alessandra from Romania – 23 November 2024 (10/10)
The staff was very helpful and understanding. The location is great and the facilities were good. It was clean and spacious. Very nice view. There are close bus stations and markets.
Beautiful old town apartment with clean rooms and comfy beds. Perfect for groups. – Zsófia from Hungary – 12 November 2024 (10/10)
The flat was amazingly beautiful and the beds (couch included) were super comfy. Lovely location with many restaurants around.
What could be improved: The shower is a little bit uncomfortable as the shower rose is attached directly to the wall. But this is just a minor issue which didn’t affect the quality of our stay.Superb – Yingrong from Hungary – 30 October 2024 (9/10)
I travelled with my friends and we chose to book this apartment. We think it clean and comfortable.
The property managers were nice and kept in touch before and during our stay. – Amanda from United States – 20 August 2024 (10/10)
The size of this property was great for our group of 8, with even more room to spare. There are twin size beds in 2 of the 3 rooms: 2 single and then 2 are part of a “bunk” but the top bed actually fold up if it’s not needed. The 3rd room had a double bed that could def fit 2 people. In addition, there was also a sofa bed in the dining room that was really comfy, one person in our group opted for it vs one of the top “bunk” beds.
Having 2 full bathrooms was also great for a big group. There was a large table in the dining room with 6 chairs and there was plenty of cups, plates, utensils and cooking items. They even had us a bottle of water in the fridge when we got there. The best part was that they had provided laundry detergent for the washer, so we could wash clothes without having to go out and buy detergent!
The property is really close to a grocery store (3 min walk) as well as several restaurants and cafe’s. There are some slightly narrow steps to get to the unit, but they’re not super steep. Being able to get in and out of the building with a code was nice, and there was a lockbox right outside the door of the unit for the keycard. It was helpful to be able to lock that out there for ppl who decided to stay out and explore the city more vs having to wait up to lock and unlock the door.
What could be improved: One of the shower doors was slightly broken, it wouldn’t stay on the hinge, but the door still closed well enough to use. I did tell the property manager about the shower and he said he would look into it.
There was also some black marks and staining on the bottom of the tub in one bathroom. It was clearly a stain, not dirty, as it didn’t come off after
4-5 showers. In Italy a lot of these buildings are older so some staining and discoloration on things like that aren’t super surprising.Wonderful stay in Trastevere! – Kelsey from Canada – 17 August 2024 (10/10)
This is the perfect place to stay if you have a large group!! So many beds, the airconditioning is incredible, and despite being so close to Rome, you feel so far and safe and cozy! The host was incredible, checked in on us, made sure everything was okay and even gave recommendations for some troubles we were having (unrelated to our stay). We had a very traumatic first day in Rome, but this flat gave us a safe haven. I would absolutely stay here again. The beds were comfy, pillows were great! Very clean and they even provided a bed for our baby!!
What could be improved: NOT REALLY A NEGATIVE*** however, I will say, there are a lot of stairs! This wasn't a problem for us! If it is for you, I would book flat C or B!Superb – Robert from Australia – 14 August 2024 (9/10)
The staff were very helpful and responded promptly when we needed assistance. The room was comfortable and clean. The location is convenient for restaurants and for most of the sites if you don't mind leisurely strolls through the streets of Rome.
What could be improved: There is only one card for the room and the power goes off when you take the card but they explained why and that was OK. The room stayed reasonable cool with the air conditioning off so it did not take long for the house to cool downFlatinrome – Rick from Netherlands – 8 August 2024 (9/10)
The location was very nice and the apartment was a good size. The staff was very friendly and was able to come over to check out issues we were having.
What could be improved: We had some minor issues with the closet not opening and one of the buttons on the bathroom not working, but they got solved quickly! These were just minor inconveniences.Awesome place to stay. Very roomy and location is great – Anna from United States – 8 August 2024 (8/10)
Location was great, staff was very helpful. Place was large and comfortable. Flexible with early check in.
What could be improved: The entrance door opened easily if you pushed on it a bit. The first bathroom sliding door didn’t close properly and the 2nd bathroom shower head wasn’t long enough and kept on coming off the hose. There also wasn’t any shampoo or body wash in the shower to the first bathroom.
