Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Domus Santa Caterina? The fact that it’s tucked away on Via Carlo Emanuele I but feels completely removed from the chaos that usually surrounds Termini Station. I mean, you’re literally a seven-minute walk from one of Europe’s busiest train hubs, yet when you’re sitting in their lobby with a coffee, you’d never know it. The street itself is one of those classic Roman residential roads where locals actually live – not just tourists stumbling around with oversized suitcases.

The building has this understated elegance that screams “we’ve been here longer than your guidebook.” It’s a proper 4-star place, but honestly, it feels more like staying at a well-connected Roman friend’s apartment building than a hotel. The rooms are spacious by European standards (and I’ve stayed in my share of shoebox hotels in Rome), with these gorgeous high ceilings that make you remember you’re in a city where architecture actually matters. What really sold me was the attention to small details – the bathroom actually has decent water pressure, the Wi-Fi works throughout the entire building, and they’ve got proper blackout curtains. You might think these things are standard, but trust me, they’re not always guaranteed in Rome.

Here’s the thing about the location that most reviews miss: being near Termini isn’t just about train connections, though obviously that’s huge if you’re doing day trips to Florence or catching an early flight. The neighborhood has some of Rome’s best hole-in-the-wall restaurants within walking distance – places where you’ll hear more Italian than English, which is getting harder to find these days. There’s this little trattoria called Il Sorpasso about ten minutes away that serves the kind of carbonara that makes you understand why Romans get so defensive about their pasta. The hotel staff actually gave me directions there, which tells you something about how they approach hospitality – they want you to experience their city, not just sleep in it. The area gets quiet at night (surprisingly so), but it’s never dead. You’ve got that perfect balance where you can grab a late dinner or early morning coffee without planning your entire day around it. With an 8.1 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and after spending four nights there last spring, I get why.

Reviews

  • Superb – Ayelen from Argentina – 9 June 2025 (9/10)

It's my second time at the hotel and I can only recommend it.
It's super close to the center while still being in a residential area, close to Termini but without being in the ugly Central train station area.
The personnal is the best, they are super happy ti help you with whatever you need.
The bathroom and bedroom are big and spacious and they provide a shared kitchen qith everything you need if you want to cook for yourself + even a washing machine!! Amazing!!
We had breakfast included and it is a very typical abd tasty Italian breakfast: it includes yogurth, coffee, tea, milk, cookies, Crackers, marmalade, butter, cheesy spread and biscottis. They refill it every day.

What could be improved: Nothing! We had an issue with the AC on our last day and because they technic couldn't come they gave us a fan, so it worked out 🙂

  • Superb – Adnan from Turkey – 28 May 2025 (9/10)

We enjoyed our stay at this place, which is very close to Termini. It had a private bathroom and it was very clean.

  • Superb – Bruktawit from Italy – 7 May 2025 (9/10)

Great location, just a short walk to the metro, making it easy to get to all the main sights. The staff was friendly and helpful, really adding to the overall experience. I'd definitely stay here again

  • Great place to stay for a night with good location. – Rebecca from New Zealand – 2 May 2025 (9/10)

The furnishing were ok, but what I liked was that room and bathroom were all really clean.

The bathroom was outside the bedroom, a couple steps across the hallway, but still private and just for us (we had the key to that bathroom).

Location was super close to the metro line and tram stop.

  • Superb – Mike from United Kingdom – 28 April 2025 (9/10)

The host was very responsive on Booking.com both before and during the stay. Room was spacious with all expected amenities and was clean. Pretty terrace with chairs and tables looking down upon the city.

  • Very good – Renee from Canada – 31 March 2025 (8/10)

Accessible to the metro station. Clean property and easy self check in. Francesca is very helpful and informative and very prompt in communicating.

  • Great, I'll be back – Pizzalover from Italy – 9 February 2025 (9/10)

Great location, 20 walking minutes from Termini train station and 5 minutes to the metro station and a little grocery store.
Francesca gave us a warm and kind welcome showing us the structure.
The room was clean and relatively spacious for the three of us, with wardrobes where to store the bags.
Private external bathroom just outside of the bedroom.
Shared kitchen with all the amenities for cooking.
    Thanks!

What could be improved: Nothing to mention

  • Superb – Chrysa from Greece – 3 December 2024 (9/10)

    The room was super clean.

What could be improved: The bathroom was out of the room and doors with locks were noisy

  • Good – Isa from Turkey – 2 December 2024 (7/10)

Good location , very close for metro and termini
