Decimo Meridio- At Spanish Steps- Overview
You know what? I’ve walked past this place dozens of times without really noticing it – Decimo Meridio sits tucked away on Via Bocca di Leone, which honestly feels like one of those Roman streets that tourists stumble onto by accident and locals use as a shortcut. But here’s the thing: that’s exactly why it works so well. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps mayhem, but the street itself has this quieter, almost residential vibe that makes you feel like you’ve found something the crowds missed.
The building itself is classic Roman – that warm, weathered stone that looks like it’s been soaking up stories for centuries. I mean, the entrance is pretty understated, which I actually appreciate because it doesn’t scream “tourist hotel” to everyone passing by. Inside, they’ve done this interesting thing where they’ve kept the old-world bones but added these modern touches that don’t feel forced or trying-too-hard. The lobby has this lived-in elegance – you know, like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place if your friend happened to have really good taste and a decent budget.
What really gets me about this location is how walkable everything becomes. Sure, everyone talks about being near the Spanish Steps, but what they don’t mention is that you’re also an easy stroll from Via del Corso for shopping, and – this is key – you can actually walk to Trevi Fountain without dealing with the metro or taxis. Plus, there’s this little enoteca around the corner that serves these incredible supplì that I’m pretty sure only locals know about. The morning routine here is something else too – step outside and you’ve got proper Roman coffee bars within fifty meters, and I’m talking about the kind where the barista remembers your order, not the tourist traps with the laminated menus in six languages. Honestly, the whole area comes alive differently depending on the time of day. Early morning feels almost sleepy and residential, then by afternoon you get this perfect energy without the overwhelming chaos you’ll find closer to the major piazzas.
