Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Roman hotels, and the Condotti Palace really caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know that slightly chaotic feeling you get when you’re trying to find your hotel in Rome’s winding streets? Well, here’s the thing: you’ll check in at Via Mario dè Fiori 37, but your actual room is around the corner on Via Della Croce 15. I mean, it sounds confusing, but honestly, once you’re there it makes perfect sense. The staff just walks you over – takes maybe two minutes – and suddenly you realize you’re basically living in two of the most coveted streets in the entire city.

The location is just… I can’t overstate this enough. Via Della Croce runs parallel to Via del Corso, which means you’re literally a stone’s throw from everything that matters, but you’re tucked away from the tourist madness. I’d step out in the morning and grab coffee at one of those tiny bars where locals actually go (not the overpriced tourist traps), then walk five minutes to the Spanish Steps before the crowds hit. The Trevi Fountain? Eight-minute walk, tops. And here’s something most people don’t realize – you’re perfectly positioned for those early morning or late evening photo sessions when the light hits the fountains just right and there aren’t hordes of people taking selfies.

What really sold me on this place, though, was how it felt more like staying in an elegant Roman apartment than a typical hotel. The rooms have this authentic Italian sophistication – not that over-the-top baroque stuff you see everywhere, but something more refined. The building itself has character; you can hear the city humming outside, but it’s not disruptive. Actually, I found the sounds of Roman life kind of soothing – mopeds puttering by, people chatting as they walked to dinner, that whole evening passeggiata vibe. The check-in process was refreshingly personal too – they actually remembered my name and seemed genuinely interested in helping me figure out the best routes to avoid crowds.

I’ll be honest, parking is basically non-existent (but that’s Rome for you), and if you’re expecting some massive American-style hotel lobby, you’ll be disappointed. But that’s exactly why it works. You’re not paying for marble waterfalls and chandeliers – you’re paying to live like a Roman in the heart of the city. The 8.8 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be everything to everyone, it’s just really, really good at what it does. And what it does is put you right in the middle of everything that makes Rome magical, without the tourist hotel feel that can honestly ruin the whole experience.

  Excellent location, walking distance to Trevi foundation and Spanish steps as well as lots of restaurants and bars. Room was comfortable and clean, with a private garden terrace and mini bar. Staff were excellent, so helpful and attentive.
