Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Colosseo Gardens on Via Giovanni Pascoli, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street in Monti, and you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special. The whole “My Extra Home” part of the name actually makes sense once you’re inside, because it really does feel like staying at a well-off Italian friend’s place rather than some sterile hotel chain.
The location is honestly perfect if you know Rome at all. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Colosseum – I mean, you can practically hear the tour groups gathering in the morning – but you’re far enough up Via Giovanni Pascoli that you don’t get all that street noise. Monti is having this moment right now where it’s cool but not completely overrun yet, and you’ll find yourself wandering down to Via del Boschetto for dinner or drinks without even planning it. The staff actually gave me solid recommendations for places the locals go, not just the tourist traps. Check-in was smooth, no weird credit card holds or anything sketchy, and they seemed genuinely happy to see guests rather than just going through the motions.
What really got me was the attention to detail – the kind of stuff you notice after you’ve stayed in way too many hotels. The rooms have this modern-but-warm thing going on, sort of like if your design-savvy friend renovated a classic Roman apartment. The beds are actually comfortable (not always a given in European hotels, let’s be real), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure and those little touches that make you feel like someone cared. I stayed there in late spring, and the whole “gardens” part of the name makes sense – there are these lovely green spaces where you can actually sit with your morning coffee and not feel like you’re in the middle of a concrete jungle. The breakfast spread was better than expected too, with actual good coffee and not just the usual hotel swill. Sure, it’s not the cheapest option in Rome, but when you factor in the location and the fact that you’re getting real value rather than just paying for a fancy lobby, it feels worth it. Plus, parking is manageable if you’re driving, which is more than I can say for most places in central Rome.
