Hotel Description
You know that feeling when you stumble into a place that’s somehow both grand and intimate? That’s exactly what happened when I first walked into the Colonna Palace Hotel. I mean, the location alone is pretty insane – you’re literally steps from the Pantheon, which honestly never gets old, even after multiple visits to Rome. The hotel sits right on Piazza Montecitorio, so you’ve got this constant gentle hum of Roman life happening outside your windows, but it’s not the crazy tourist chaos you get closer to the Trevi Fountain.
The building itself has this old-world elegance that feels authentic rather than forced – you can tell it’s been hosting travelers for decades. What really struck me was how the staff actually remembered my name after the first day (and I’m terrible with names myself, so I notice when others aren’t). The rooms are what I’d call “properly Roman” – not huge by American standards, but thoughtfully designed with these gorgeous high ceilings and marble details that make you feel like you’re staying in someone’s elegant apartment rather than a generic hotel box. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious, which is honestly a relief after some of the shoebox situations I’ve encountered in European city centers.
Here’s what I really love about this spot – you can walk to the Pantheon in about three minutes, but more importantly, you’re in the heart of where actual Romans go about their business. There’s this fantastic little caffè around the corner where the baristas will judge your coffee order (in the best possible way), and the evening passeggiata flows right past your doorstep. The hotel’s restaurant is solid, though I’ll be honest, with all the incredible neighborhood trattorias within walking distance, you might find yourself eating out more often than not. Parking is… well, it’s Rome, so forget about driving unless you absolutely have to. But the Metro connections are decent, and honestly, this is a walking city anyway. The only minor thing I’d mention is that rooms facing the piazza can get a bit lively during peak season evenings, but that’s sort of part of the charm – you’re right in the middle of everything. If you’re someone who needs complete silence, maybe request a room toward the back, but personally, I found the gentle soundtrack of Roman street life rather soothing. For a four-star place, it punches above its weight, and the location is pretty much unbeatable if you want to feel like you’re living in Rome rather than just visiting it.

Lovely, central place to stay in Rome. – Laurie from United States – 23 June 2025 (9/10)
Room was great, very clean, nice size. Breakfast offered a good variety. Staff was very helpful.
Loved the view from the rooftop. Nice place to relax in the evening.
What could be improved: Could have had some snacks available in minibar or vending machine.
Had some problems with shower, bathtub. Had to have staff show us how to work. Valve to switch from shower to tub hard to operate. Hard to avoid getting floor wet with only half wall in shower.Great! – Tina from Norway – 23 April 2025 (8/10)
Clean, central and good service
What could be improved: Hard bedsVery good – Mario from Bosnia and Herzegovina – 18 April 2025 (8/10)
Location. Stuff is very kind.
What could be improved: Average breakfast for this price and hotel reputation.Delightful! – Sue from United Kingdom – 17 January 2025 (9/10)
Location just on the edge of the old city (central for access to the rest of the city and peaceful for evening strolls), rooftop breakfast terrace with magnificent views to landmarks across the city and beyond, lovely friendly staff all seemed genuinely committed to looking after us, interesting view from my room, just the right size hotel for me, no big groups of guests.
What could be improved: I'd have liked a walk-in shower, but the shower-over-bath was well-designed so with a bit of care I managed fine. The electronic room-lock never unlocked first time.In the center – C from Romania – 13 October 2024 (8/10)
Location, the terace, the staff
What could be improved: Bad smell in the rooms and cold, the ac doesnt heatPerfect location – Ronald from United Kingdom – 6 October 2024 (9/10)
Location perfect, all major sites within easy walking distance, breakfast ok, only hot food was scrambled egg, but plenty of meat, cheese and hard boiled eggs
What could be improved: The seating outside the hotel entrance needs upgrading or replacingVery good – Chaim from Israel – 17 August 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: The WiFi was not working good plus the fact that there are places in the hotel with poor cellular reception made it hard to stay connected when needed.
Gorgeous building and location. – Laura from Australia – 8 August 2024 (9/10)
Fantastic location, very close to everything including sights and restaurants. Also very close to shops and buses
What could be improved: Aircon struggled with the high temperaturesGreat location for exploring Rome on foot – Adam from Australia – 31 July 2024 (9/10)
Location was great for exploring Rome. Walking distance to Trevi Fountain, Coliseum etc.
What could be improved: No restaurant, but plenty close by and the facilities are a bit dated.Literally just around the corner from the Pantheon! – Fiona from Australia – 15 July 2024 (8/10)
Great location, and great breakfast with a terrific view.
What could be improved: Despite requesting my shower to be fixed, the shower head still fell over when turned on. The bar fridge didn't function either, which was annoying given I wanted to have cool drinks of an afternoon after escaping the summer heat. Reception were contacted about both issues. But this is Italy, and I would certainly recommend this hotel.
