This place actually gets it right, and the location is pretty incredible once you realize where you are. It’s tucked right on Lungotevere de’ Cenci, which means you’re literally steps from the Tiber Island (that’s the Isola Tiberina part) and maybe a seven-minute walk to the Pantheon. I mean, you can’t really beat that for exploring Rome’s centro storico on foot.

The thing about this citizenM is that it feels like they actually thought about what travelers want instead of just copying their other locations. The lobby doubles as this buzzing social space where you’ll see a mix of Romans grabbing coffee and tourists planning their day – there’s something energizing about that blend. The rooms are compact but cleverly designed (think Japanese efficiency meets Dutch minimalism), and honestly, the bed situation is fantastic. I’m talking about those XXL beds that make you forget you’re in what’s essentially a sophisticated budget hotel. The mood lighting system seems gimmicky at first, but it’s actually useful when you’re dealing with jet lag and need to trick your brain into the right time zone. One small critique though – the shower setup is a bit awkward if you’re over six feet tall, but the water pressure makes up for it.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re right where the Jewish Quarter meets the historic center, so you get this authentic Roman residential feel while still being tourist-central. In the morning, you can walk down to the island (which is tiny but charming) or head toward Campo de’ Fiori for the market – both are practically next door. The area gets busy during the day but settles down at night, so you won’t have the noise issues you’d get near Termini or Trastevere. Parking is basically impossible around here, but that’s true for most of central Rome anyway, and you really don’t need a car when you’re this close to everything. The 8.9 rating makes sense once you factor in the location premium and the fact that the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you solid recommendations beyond the obvious tourist spots.
