Hotel Description
You know what? Casa Mia completely surprised me. I’ll be honest – when I first walked down Vicolo della Renella looking for it, I thought I’d taken a wrong turn. The street’s so narrow you can practically touch both sides if you stretch your arms out, and there’s this lovely worn cobblestone thing happening that makes your wheeled luggage sound like a freight train (sorry, neighbors). But that’s actually part of what makes this place special – you’re staying on a proper Roman side street, not some tourist thoroughfare.
The hotel itself feels more like staying at someone’s well-traveled aunt’s place than a typical 3-star property. The rooms are honestly pretty basic – I mean, we’re talking simple furnishings and compact bathrooms – but everything’s clean and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. What really got me was stepping out onto the tiny balcony in the morning with my coffee and realizing I could hear actual Roman life happening below: the fruit vendor setting up his cart, neighbors chatting across their windows, someone’s nonna scolding her grandson. It’s that authentic neighborhood buzz you just can’t get near the Colosseum where most tourists stay.
Here’s the thing about Trastevere that Casa Mia gets right – location is everything, but it’s not about being close to monuments. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Da Enzo al 29, which locals will tell you serves some of the best cacio e pepe in Rome (and they’re not wrong). The Santa Maria in Trastevere piazza is right there too, perfect for evening aperitivo when the golden hour hits those medieval facades just right. I actually found myself skipping the obvious tourist spots some days and just wandering the maze of streets around the hotel – there’s this incredible sense of discovery when you stumble onto a tiny church you’ve never heard of or find that perfect corner café where the barista starts remembering your order.
The staff at Casa Mia genuinely seem to care about pointing you toward the good stuff. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just hand me a generic list – they actually asked what I was in the mood for and steered me away from the tourist traps on Viale Trastevere. Fair warning though: this neighborhood gets lively at night, especially on weekends. If you’re someone who needs complete silence to sleep, maybe request a room facing the courtyard rather than the street. But honestly? The sounds of Trastevere at night – distant laughter, the occasional street musician, the gentle hum of Roman nightlife – it all becomes part of the experience. It’s not luxury, but it’s real Rome, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

What could be improved: NothingA lovely hotel in Trastevere, thatI was lucky to find on booking.com – John from Australia – 31 May 2025 (8/10)
Definitely the location. A marvellous buzzy atmosphere, and the best place to sample excellent Italian food.
What could be improved: The broken kettle lid. Glasses instead of cups. No tea sachets or milk. When expecting international guests, it's important to consider every country's likes when waking in the morning.good value for money – Georgina from Australia – 26 May 2025 (7/10)
The room was a good size, the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was simple which suited us, the location was really good, the hotel had a good restaurant. There were many restaurants and bars nearby and you were in-between all the attractions in Rome
What could be improved: The Wifi was disappointing. It's difficult to plan your days when the WIFI is not there or very very lowVery convenient for a one night stopover in Rome. – Caroline from Australia – 25 May 2025 (7/10)
Very convenient location, easy walking to many restaurants and to key attractions. Very nice breakfast for a small hotel – a small buffet with hot and cold choices.
What could be improved: Only minor issue was the tiny bathroom. Everything worked fine and I know it is typical for Europe, but it was very compact.Value for money. – Rachel from Australia – 14 May 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: It was hard getting hold of the staff. Tourist tax was not flagged ahead of time.Very good – Brian from Malta – 19 April 2025 (8/10)
Staff were very friendly and when one of our friends was not feeling well, they blocked the room so he can stay as much as he needed and do a late checkout.
