Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Casa di Lina? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street in Monti that feels completely removed from the tourist chaos, but you’re actually just minutes from the Colosseum. I mean, you can literally walk there in under ten minutes, but Via di San Martino Ai Monti has this quiet, residential vibe that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled into a secret corner of Rome. The building itself is one of those gorgeous old Roman townhouses with weathered stone and green shutters – honestly, I walked past it twice before realizing it was my hotel because it blends so seamlessly into the neighborhood.

The inside is where Casa di Lina really shines, though. Everything feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together for Instagram. The rooms have these beautiful high ceilings (which actually help keep things cool in summer – trust me on this), and the restoration work preserved all the original architectural details while adding modern touches that actually make sense. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for a Roman hotel, and the beds are properly comfortable, not those rock-hard European mattresses that leave you aching. What I loved most was how quiet it stays at night – Monti can get pretty lively, especially around Via del Boschetto where all the bars are, but this particular street seems to miss most of the foot traffic. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood too, which is rarer than you’d think. They pointed me toward this incredible family-run trattoria on Via Madonna dei Monti that I never would have found otherwise, and their recommendations for avoiding crowds at the major sites were spot-on.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives here. You’re surrounded by locals doing their daily shopping, kids playing in the small piazzas, and that authentic Roman rhythm that’s hard to find in the more touristy areas. Plus, you’re walking distance from everything that matters – the Colosseum and Roman Forum, obviously, but also the vibrant nightlife scene that’s made Monti so popular with young Romans. The Cavour metro stop is just a few minutes away when you need to venture further out, and there’s a great morning market on Via Baccina where you can grab fresh fruit and excellent coffee. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and while I can’t speak to how it handles the summer crowds, the building stayed refreshingly cool even on warmer days. The 9.3 rating makes complete sense – it’s not trying to be a luxury palace, but it nails everything that actually matters when you’re exploring a city like Rome.

  • Excellent apartment in a great area. – Dylan from Ireland – 27 April 2025 (9/10)

    Big rooms and comfortable beds.

What could be improved: Only one key provided

  • Great location, great layout, comfortable! A great place for a family who wants to see Rome! – Joe from United States – 13 June 2025 (9/10)

The location was fantastic! This is the niegborhood to stay in. Close to the apartment, there is everything you need: supermarket, pizzaria, gellato, cafe, pasticheria, metro-stop. And, the heart of Rome is an easy, safe, and beautiful 15 minute walk (with kids!). And, the layout/functionality of the apartment is perfect for a family. Loved it!

What could be improved: Ultimately, the check in experience was pretty easy. I was intimidated because I had never used this type of online link to open the door. But, in the end, it was pretty simple–just make sure you have good internet access or cell phone coverage.

  • Very good – Rosa from Spain – 31 January 2023 (8/10)

What could be improved: En la cocina faltaba limpieza y hay que renovar algunas cosas.La caldera deja de funcionar algunas veces.

  • Doporučuji – Hečová from Czech Republic – 15 April 2025 (8/10)

Bezvadná lokalita , vybavení bytu naprosto dostačující, v kuchyni vybavení také dostačující a líbil se nám velký prostorný stůl a židle pro všechny. V koupelně k dispozici dostatek ručníků a fén. První den nám bylo poněkud chladno ,napsali jsme majiteli a ten to následující den ihned vyřešil.

What could be improved: Vlastně nechci být úplně negativní, ale úklid by dle mých standardů mohl být celkově lepší.
