Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Camplus Hotel Roma Centro? It actually feels like Rome – not some generic hotel that could be anywhere in the world. When I walked into the lobby on Via Montebello, there was this perfect mix of modern efficiency and Italian character that honestly surprised me for a 3-star place. The staff behind the desk were chatting in rapid Italian about football scores, but switched to English the moment they saw me fumbling with my bags.
The location is pretty much perfect if you’re doing Rome the way most people do Rome. You’re about a 10-minute walk from Termini Station – close enough that you can hear the occasional rumble of trains if you really listen, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the chaos and pickpockets that hang around the station itself. What I loved is that you can walk to the Colosseum in maybe 15 minutes, but you’re also surrounded by actual Romans going about their daily lives. There’s this little café two doors down where the owner, Giuseppe, makes the kind of cappuccino that ruins you for airport coffee forever. And honestly, the hotel staff told me about it – they know their neighborhood, which says something.
The rooms are… well, they’re Roman-sized, meaning compact but cleverly designed. My room on the third floor had these tall windows that opened onto a narrow street, and in the mornings I’d wake up to the sound of delivery trucks and Vespas – quintessential Rome soundtrack, really. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had been recently renovated with one of those rainfall showers that actually works. The Wi-Fi was solid too, which matters when you’re trying to figure out Vatican ticket bookings at 11 PM. What impressed me most was the attention to details – good lighting for reading, enough outlets for all your devices, and blackout curtains that actually block out the streetlights. The cleaning staff clearly takes pride in their work; my room was spotless every day, towels folded just so.
Look, this isn’t a luxury hotel, and it doesn’t pretend to be. But for the price point, it punches way above its weight. The 9-star rating makes sense when you factor in the location, the genuinely helpful staff, and the fact that everything just works. I mean, how many hotels have you stayed in where the front desk guy draws you a hand-sketched map to the best gelato place in Monti? (It’s called Fatamorgana, by the way, and it’s incredible.) If you’re the type of traveler who wants to spend their money on experiences rather than thread count, this place gets it. You’ll sleep well, start each day caffeinated, and have more euros left over for those long dinners with too much wine that make Rome trips memorable.
