Hotel Description

You know what surprised me about Buonarroti Home? The name actually means something here – you’re literally staying in the shadow of Michelangelo’s legacy, and honestly, the place feels like it gets that responsibility. When I first walked up Via Carlo Alberto, I was expecting another generic hotel near Termini Station (because let’s be real, that area can be hit or miss), but this four-star spot actually has some character to it.

The location is sort of perfect if you think about it – you’re close enough to the central station that dragging your luggage isn’t a nightmare, but far enough down Carlo Alberto that you’re not dealing with the chaos of tourists wandering around lost at all hours. I mean, you can still hear the city, but it’s more like a gentle Rome hum rather than that aggressive street noise you get closer to the main drags. The 8.3 rating makes sense once you settle in – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything works the way it should. The rooms feel thoughtfully put together, and I noticed little touches that suggest someone who actually travels had input on the design. Like, the lighting is warm enough that you don’t feel like you’re in a hospital, and there’s actual space to open your suitcase without doing some weird furniture shuffle dance.

What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to know their neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist stuff, but where to grab a decent espresso at 6 AM (there’s a little bar around the corner that opens early for commuters) and which streets to avoid during evening rush hour. The whole Esquilino district has this authentic Roman residential feel that you miss when you’re staying in the centro storico with everyone else. You’ll walk past actual Romans doing their grocery shopping and kids playing in small piazzas, which honestly feels more real than dodging selfie sticks near the Pantheon all day. Plus, if you’re planning to do day trips – and you should – being this close to Termini means you’re not spending half your morning just getting to the train station. The metro connections are right there, so getting to the Colosseum or Vatican is straightforward, but you also have easy access to those lesser-known neighborhoods that make Rome special. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to feel like I was visiting Rome rather than just checking tourist boxes.

Reviews

  • Very good – Jenine from United States – 1 June 2025 (8/10)

Location. Quiet. Small. Staff was extremely helpful.

What could be improved: Small shower. Room was small but adequate.

  • The beauty of Rome for less than you’d expect! – Jaki from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (8/10)

We were greeted by a very approachable and helpful host. Rooms were affordable for Rome and in my favourite part of the city- easy access to the ancient Roman sites. Best of all (and I apologise for not knowing her name!) the lady serving breakfast, she was so lovely and genuine. She welcomed all guests and if she didn’t speak their language she made good use of google translate in offering suggestions and helpful travel tips.

    What could be improved: I don’t there’s anything I didn’t like 😁

  • Very good – Sofie from Belgium – 27 January 2025 (8/10)

Giovanna and Federico were very nice and we really enjoyed our stay. They gave us tips to visit the city and how to move around.

What could be improved: Breakfast was only sweet

  • We enjoyed our stay. – Eleni from Greece – 1 September 2024 (8/10)

Within walking distance to major landmarks and the Termini. Nearby metro station takes you to the Vatican. Comfortable room , spacious bathroom. Very friendly staff.

What could be improved: Breakfast was rather poor, with exclusively sweet options. Maybe some bread and cheese would make a difference.

  • Superb – Kaixia from United States – 13 August 2024 (9/10)

Though the room is compact, it is exceptionally clean, and the location is highly convenient—just a 7-minute walk to Roma Termini train station and 15 minutes to the Colosseum. The owner and staff are very nice and helpful!

  • A nice respite from the hustle and bustle of Rome and very friendly staff made us feel very welcome. Would definitely re – Katherine from United States – 25 July 2024 (9/10)

Nice staff! Good AC! Great location near metro and train station. Quiet

  • Friendly, comfortable and clean – Richard from United Kingdom – 6 July 2024 (9/10)

Location close to Train Station and Metro. Within walking distance of most Rome attractions. Close to Saint Maria Maggiore basilica, worth a visit inside.

What could be improved: Breakfast could have had more selection, say yoghurts, fruits etc.

  • Good value for money. Very small room but fine if all you’re doing is sleeping there. – Aaron from New Zealand – 29 June 2024 (8/10)

Breakfast included. Safe and secure. Helpful breakfast lady.

What could be improved: Location a bit far from everything. But we kind of knew that.

location is excellent, you can walk to many places, and you have a transportation hub, Termini station, 5 minute walk away.a whole street full of food restaurants, literally anything you might want is there.
the room was nice and clean, owners -very nice people. the landlord was very helpful, giving us full info on anything, like transportation, turist spots. the only issue i found there was a very poor internet connection. besides that- very good experience. if you don't care about internet speed- fully recommended.
