Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Brunelleschi Holidays Hostel on Borgo Sant’Angelo – I mean, it’s tucked into this narrow street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But you know what? That’s actually part of its charm. The building itself has this understated elegance that screams “I’ve been here longer than your great-grandfather,” and once you step inside, you realize this isn’t your typical backpacker crash pad.

The location is what really gets me excited about this place, though. You’re literally a five-minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica – and I’m talking a leisurely stroll, not a power walk. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being in Prati means you’re away from the absolute tourist chaos of the Vatican area while still being close enough to pop over whenever you want. Via Cola di Rienzo is right there for actual shopping (not just souvenir stands), and the morning market on Via Andrea Doria is where you’ll find locals buying their produce. I’ve stayed in places closer to the Colosseum that felt way more disconnected from real Roman life. The neighborhood actually quiets down at night too, which is a blessing when you’re trying to sleep off all that wine from dinner.

What surprised me most was how they’ve managed to maintain that hostel community vibe while offering legitimately comfortable accommodations. The common areas feel lived-in rather than sterile – there’s usually someone around to chat with, and the staff genuinely seems to know the city rather than just rattling off TripAdvisor recommendations. I remember asking about where to find good supplì (those amazing fried rice balls), and instead of sending me to some tourist trap, they directed me to this tiny place on Via Germanico that locals actually frequent. The rooms themselves are clean and well-maintained – nothing fancy, but you’re not dealing with broken fixtures or sketchy plumbing either. And honestly, with an 8.9 rating, they’re clearly doing something right across the board.

The check-in process was smooth, parking is tricky but manageable if you know the tricks (ask them about the nearby spots), and you’re close enough to Metro Ottaviano that getting around the city is straightforward. Plus, and this might sound weird, but the morning light in that neighborhood is just beautiful – something about how it hits those old buildings makes you feel like you’re in an actual movie about Rome rather than just another tourist rushing through a checklist.

Rooms are well equipped and bed was so comfy we had a good sleep every night also well decorated and nicely designed. We used a gym as well. Roof top terrace is amazing and private. Near hotel is plenty local restaurants and shops for reasonable prices.
Short walk prox 10min to the Vatican city and st. Pietro Basilica.
Rafaela from reception organised for us visit for Colosseum and was helping us by video call on the way to Colosseum, because we couldn't find office where we had to have our tickets printed and was so patient. She also arranged taxi for us to the airport. GREAT SERVICE and well spoken English 👍

  • Perfect Location and Comfortable Accommodation – Brook from United States – 21 May 2025 (10/10)

The location and value cannot be beat. There is so much space, which is a premium in Rome. The rooftop is a bonus. We were a little concerned when the name changed to include "hostel" but all was fine.
