Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to BigFamilyFlats on Via Antonio Cecchi – it’s tucked away in this quiet corner of Testaccio that most tourists never find. But you know what? That’s exactly what makes it special. The building sits right along the Tiber, and I mean *right* along it – you can hear the water from some of the rooms, which is either incredibly soothing or mildly distracting depending on how you feel about river sounds at night.

The flats themselves are genuinely spacious (hence the “BigFamily” name, I guess), with these high ceilings that make you feel like you’re actually living in Rome rather than just visiting. The kitchens are properly equipped too – not just a mini-fridge and microwave situation, but actual cooking space. Which comes in handy because Testaccio market is literally a ten-minute walk away, and trust me, you’ll want to bring back some of that incredible produce. The apartments feel lived-in without being worn down, if that makes sense. Like someone’s stylish Roman aunt lets you crash at her place while she’s away. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward – no hovering desk clerk, just clear instructions and keys that actually work on the first try.

What really sold me on this place is the neighborhood itself. Testaccio is where actual Romans go to eat, not tourists with guidebooks. You’ve got Checchino dal 1887 around the corner (book ahead), and this little enoteca on Via di Monte Testaccio where the owner will pour you wines you’ve never heard of but definitely should have. The area gets properly quiet after about 10 PM, which is rare for Rome – even the weekend crowd from the clubs up on the hill doesn’t really filter down to where you’re staying. Parking is… well, it’s Rome, so it’s never *easy*, but there are spots along the river if you’re patient and don’t mind walking a few blocks. The 23 bus stops right outside and takes you straight to Trastevere, or you can walk to Piramide metro in about twelve minutes (I timed it). During summer the riverside gets a bit warm in the afternoons, but there’s decent cross-ventilation in most units, and honestly, that’s what the terraces are for. I spent most evenings out there with a bottle of Frascati, watching the light change over the water. Not a bad way to end a day of trudging around the Colosseum, you know?

  What could be improved: Bathrooms are a bit small. However they are fully functional. I understand that the neighborhoods are very old so these are living spaces designed and erected long time ago. The host did a successful adaptation giving these conditions.

  very nice apartment, close to transport, walking distance to the Colosseum. The apartment is on the first floor, the area is quite quiet. The apartment had tea, coffee, jam and bread prepared for all days of stay. There was also everything needed for a washing machine and dishwasher. The apartment has enough rooms to accommodate a large group. It would be great to have a transformable table in the kitchen to accommodate everyone at the table. Overall I really enjoyed my stay, the apartment was cozy.
  
  What could be improved: It is advisable to wash the towels on a hotter and longer cycle and dry them well.

  Struttura molto pulita e accogliente, host gentilissimo e molto molto disponibile per ogni inconveniente. Questo appartamento ha reso il nostro soggiorno bellissimo, se mai ritornerò a Roma ritornerò in questa struttura 😍

  Хозяин предоставил кофе, чай, молоко, джемы, сахар, соль, масло. При заезде нас ждала бутылка вина белого.
