Look, I’ve stayed at my share of three-star hotels in Rome, and honestly? Best Western Hotel Globus surprised me. It’s tucked away on Viale Ippocrate in the Nomentano district – not exactly where most tourists end up, which is actually part of its charm. You’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the chaos of the Colosseum, but the neighborhood feels properly Roman, you know? Real people living real lives, not just gelato stands and souvenir shops.

The hotel itself has this sort of understated efficiency that I really appreciated. Check-in was smooth (they speak decent English, which – let’s be honest – isn’t always a given), and the lobby has that clean, modern look without trying too hard. My room was smaller than what you’d get in the States, but it’s Rome, so that’s expected. What I didn’t expect was how quiet it was at night. The street isn’t completely silent, but it’s that gentle hum of city life rather than the honking madness you get closer to the center. The air conditioning actually worked well too, which matters more than you’d think during those sweltering July afternoons.

Here’s what really won me over though – the location is sneaky brilliant. There’s a Conad supermarket literally two blocks away (trust me, you’ll want to grab some of that incredible Italian yogurt and fresh bread for breakfast), and the Policlinico metro station is close enough that you can walk it even with luggage. The neighborhood has these great little trattorias where you’ll be the only tourist – I found this place called Da Armando al Pantheon that locals actually go to, not just the Instagram crowd. Plus, if you’re into running or just need some green space, Villa Ada park is right there. I mean, it’s this massive park where Romans go to jog and walk their dogs, and barely any guidebooks mention it. The staff pointed me toward it when I asked about somewhere to get some exercise, and honestly, it became my favorite part of staying there. You can actually breathe in that park – something you can’t say about the Forum on a busy day.

The 8.2 rating makes sense to me. It’s not luxury, but everything works like it should. The shower had proper water pressure, the WiFi didn’t cut out every five minutes, and the bed was actually comfortable. Sometimes that’s all you need. The breakfast was decent – nothing fancy, but real espresso and fresh pastries, which beats the weird coffee most chain hotels serve. One small thing that bugged me was the elevator – it’s one of those tiny European ones that fits maybe two people and a suitcase, so if you’re traveling with a lot of gear, be prepared to make multiple trips. But honestly, that’s pretty standard for Rome unless you’re dropping serious cash on a five-star place. If you want to experience Rome like someone who actually lives there, rather than just hitting the tourist highlights, this place puts you in the right spot to do it.

  Check in woman Iliri/Ilrya (?) was excellent. Professional and welcoming and aware I was exhausted.

  Loved the location (2 underground stops from Roma Termini, but also walkable). Very clean with a fast check in. Slightly pricey, but also was a last minute booking and with Pope passing. There were a few pizza restaurants and cafe nearby and a small grocery store at the end of the block. Rooftop bar was pleasant but basic.

  The location was great. An eight minute walk to the subway and a 9 minute ride to the Colosseum. The night life around the hotel was a plus always somewhere to grab a quick bite on the way back to the hotel. Breakfast was a good value.

  For a three star hotel, it's very good. Friendly employees, clean rooms, great breakfast. It's not too far away from the city centre, the metro station is close to the hotel and it takes about 5 min to get to the colosseum. There are grocery shops close to the hotel, restaurants and bars…
  
  What could be improved: The only things that bothered me was non functional tv (it worked but there were no programmes) and non functional kettle. But ok, not a big deal.
