Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of three-star places in Rome, and honestly? The Best Western Astrid on Largo Antonio Sarti really surprised me. First thing you notice walking up is how quiet it actually is – I mean, you’re still in Rome so there’s always some background hum, but this little corner near Villa Borghese feels almost residential. The Parioli neighborhood isn’t where most tourists end up, which is exactly why I liked it.
The lobby’s got that classic Roman marble thing going on, but not in a stuffy way. More like someone’s well-kept apartment building from the 60s. Check-in was smooth – the desk staff actually knew the area well enough to give me real directions, not just “turn left at the big street.” They pointed me toward this little alimentari around the corner that stays open late, which saved me when I got back from the Vatican museums absolutely starving at 9 PM. The rooms are what you’d expect for a solid three-star – clean, decent-sized by Roman standards, and the AC actually works (crucial in summer, trust me). My room faced the courtyard, so it was genuinely quiet at night, though I could hear some street noise from the Via Salaria direction if I really listened.
What really works about this place is the location – you’re a ten-minute walk from the Bioparco if you’re traveling with kids, and the Villa Borghese gardens are right there when you need to escape the chaos of central Rome. The metro situation is… well, you’ll walk about 15 minutes to Policlinico on Line B, but honestly the buses are better from here anyway. The 910 takes you straight down to Termini, and there’s a stop practically outside the hotel. Parking’s available if you’re brave enough to drive in Rome – though I’d recommend against it unless you absolutely have to. The neighborhood has some genuinely good restaurants too, not tourist traps. There’s this family-run trattoria called Da Valentino about five minutes away that locals actually go to, where you can get proper carbonara without paying 18 euros for it.
The hotel itself feels more like a comfortable base than a destination – which is exactly what you want in Rome, you know? You’re not here to hang out in your room anyway. Breakfast is continental style, nothing fancy but decent coffee and fresh pastries. The staff’s been there forever, which shows – they know their stuff and aren’t trying to upsell you on tours every five minutes. Is it perfect? No – the WiFi can be spotty on higher floors, and some of the furniture’s seen better days. But for the price point and that 7.8 rating, it delivers what it promises. If you want to stay somewhere that feels more like Rome and less like a tourist bubble, and you don’t mind being a bit off the beaten path, the Astrid’s a solid choice.

For the price I paid, this was absolutely worth it. It felt like a 4 star hotel—better than the one I stayed near Rome terminal, which is a 4 star hotel but felt like 2 star.

The location of the hotel is great, the breakfast had a variety and a nice view from the terrace. The staff was friendly and we especially liked the complimentary refreshments in the room.
