Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to the Best Western Blu Hotel Roma on Largo Domenico de’ Dominicis, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in Tiburtino, which isn’t exactly where most tourists plant their flag, but that’s actually what ended up being kind of brilliant about it. You’re away from the madness of the city center but still connected – the Tiburtina train station is practically a stone’s throw away, which means you can hop on the metro and be at the Colosseum in what, twenty minutes?

The hotel itself has this modern, clean vibe that feels refreshingly un-fussy after dealing with Rome’s beautiful chaos all day. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love the ancient charm of the centro storico, but sometimes you just want to come back to a place where the Wi-Fi actually works and the shower has proper water pressure, you know? The staff at check-in were genuinely helpful – not just going through the motions – and they had solid recommendations for dinner spots in the neighborhood that weren’t tourist traps. There’s this little trattoria about three blocks down Via Tiburtina that they pointed me toward, and honestly, it was better than half the overpriced places near the Pantheon.

What really sold me on this place was the practical stuff that nobody talks about but everyone cares about. The rooms are quiet – like, actually quiet, not “quiet for Rome” quiet. The air conditioning works (crucial in summer), and there’s enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The breakfast situation is solid too – nothing fancy, but fresh pastries and decent coffee, plus they had these little local touches that made it feel less chain-hotel generic. Parking was surprisingly painless if you’re driving, which in Rome is saying something. The neighborhood itself has this lived-in feel where you’ll see actual Romans going about their daily business instead of just other tourists taking selfies. There’s a good gelato place around the corner on Via dei Durantini, and the local market in the mornings has that authentic Roman energy without the crowds. It’s not the most Instagram-worthy location, but if you want to experience Rome without constantly fighting through tour groups and paying tourist prices for everything, this spot actually makes a lot of sense as a base.

Reviews

  • Superb – Kathy from Australia – 1 July 2025 (9/10)

Breakfast was great. Bathroom was good. All in all a good place to stay even though a fair way from the centre. The train station right outside and good eating places across the road.

What could be improved: Location a bit far. Bonus food & drinks were cheaper and food was great at both restaturants!

  • Very good stay we might stay again in the future. – Nico from Italy – 17 April 2025 (8/10)

All was good, very welcoming staff location is not bad just few bus stops to the Train station/metro Station. Family room was spacious and comfortable, very clean. Across the road there is a small supermarket and a place to eat or have breakfast with very value for money

What could be improved: The room is pretty dark as fixed shades filter off much of the light, complementary water should be a good idea.

  • Good value hotel for the price. – Maria from Philippines – 7 September 2024 (8/10)

Good buffet breakfast; nice restaurant across the street

What could be improved: Location a bit far from central part of Rome and costly to take taxi to and fro; restaurant food at dinner very limited and expensive.

  • Great, I stayed there because it was the meet & drop off point for my group tour radar – Catherine from Canada – 5 September 2024 (9/10)

    All was good. Staff great.

What could be improved: Location. Not good for a leisure tourist that wants to see all the sights.
Takes too long by bus/metro to get to city centre & back. Example: Trevi Fountain or Galleria Borghese.
Better for business travellers. Good for business or a bit of remote work. Spacious with air conditioning that always worked and clean. Proper hotel not a B&B.

  • Superb – Simon from Canada – 3 September 2024 (9/10)

Staff is super friendly. The hotel is very clean and neat. Close to station and 25min from downtown.

What could be improved: Breakfast was not worth 12 euros. You can go across the hotel at a bakery and 2 people can eat and have coffee for $10 total

  • Superb – Rachel from Malta – 21 July 2024 (9/10)

Cleanliness, breakfast, reception helpful, close to train station, asked for help with AC problem and was immediately helped.

What could be improved: Could not change AC temp. However, it was comfortable

  • Good overall. Staff was friendly and extremely helpful! – Vimille from United States – 19 July 2024 (8/10)

Clean and restaurant onsite was good.

What could be improved: AC struggled after first night.

  • ok stay , but there are better Best western Hotels – Richard from Australia – 10 June 2024 (7/10)

good hotel, but too far away from centre of Roma.

What could be improved: Hotel air con. not turned on!!apparently too early in the summer and not hot enough yet ! room was a little too warm

  • Very good – Rhona from United Kingdom – 17 May 2024 (8/10)

    Nice and clean

What could be improved: Breakfast mediocre staff slow on replenishing as it was buffet style

  • I had a fairly enjoyable stay – Andrew from United Kingdom – 13 May 2024 (7/10)

It was clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful

What could be improved: It was very over priced for the star rating it’s very basic with no amenities
