Hotel Description
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Best Western Ars Hotel on Via Monte Altissimo, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked away in Monte Sacro, which honestly most tourists have never heard of, but that’s actually part of its charm. The neighborhood feels properly Roman – you know, the kind of place where locals are walking their dogs and grabbing espresso at the corner bar, not posing for Instagram shots.
The hotel itself is solid four-star territory, nothing flashy but everything works the way it should. Check-in was smooth (the staff actually spoke decent English, which isn’t always a given in the outer neighborhoods), and I was surprised by how quiet my room was considering we’re still technically in Rome. The Monte Sacro area has this residential vibe that means you’re not dealing with tour groups clomping around at all hours. My room had that clean, modern European hotel feel – good bed, proper shower pressure, and decent Wi-Fi that didn’t cut out every five minutes like some places I’ve stayed.
What really sold me on this place was the location strategy, if that makes sense. You’re about a 15-minute metro ride from the city center, but here’s the thing – the Conca d’Oro station is just a short walk away, and you can actually get seats on the trains heading into town because you’re starting from the outer zones. I mean, try doing that from a hotel near the Colosseum and you’ll be sardined in with everyone else. Plus, there’s this fantastic little trattoria called Da Armando just around the corner that serves the kind of carbonara that makes you understand why Romans get so protective about their pasta – the hotel staff recommended it, and they weren’t just being polite.
The 7.4 rating feels about right, honestly. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it delivers on what it promises without any nasty surprises. The breakfast was better than expected (actual decent coffee, not the watery stuff some chains serve), and there’s parking if you’re brave enough to drive in Rome. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the air conditioning works properly – which trust me, matters a lot during Roman summers – and the whole place has that reliable, no-drama quality that makes you sleep well at night.
What I really appreciated was how the hotel sits in this sweet spot between authentic Roman neighborhood life and tourist accessibility. You can walk to the Villa Ada park in the morning (gorgeous for a run, by the way), grab lunch at one of the family-run places on Via Nomentana, then hop on the metro to see the Vatican or whatever’s on your list. It’s like having a Roman friend’s guest room, but with daily housekeeping and a proper concierge desk.

Very good – Gvantsa from Georgia – 25 July 2023 (8/10)
I want to thank staff and especially Keti, she was extremely helpful, polite and always ready to help or advise. The hotel itself was very beautiful and comfortable
What could be improved: The room was quite far from the reception, I got lost 2-3 times, breakfast was nice but casual and with not much choice. The location was not good as we were not able to request taxi, been waiting for an hour and we were late for the train. Also it was quite far from the main sightseeingsVery good – Cristian from Italy – 24 September 2022 (8/10)
Very clean, large and comfortable room. The staff were courteous and helpful. I had been to a chain hotel before and will definitely return
What could be improved: From the reception 6 steps separate from the lift and for someone like me carrying heavy suitcases it is not the best. In the evening, returning to my room, I found an attendant sweeping the elevator and he didn't stop seeing me at the door but made me wait in a situation that is not elegant for a hotel of this level. The location is not great but close to metro BGood – Salbie from Australia – 9 July 2024 (7/10)
The staff and location were good.
What could be improved: The rooms were cleaned very late. Which, we found to be inconvenient. When you are out all day and you come back to an unmade room, it is a bit disappointing.Very good – Sharon from Australia – 18 June 2024 (8/10)
Comfortable room
Staff helpful with information in regard to public transport
Good breakfastLocation, staff are very good. Lobby area functional.Room needs renovation, hope to have next time – Liat from Italy – 5 March 2024 (7/10)
Good location staff very friendly and efficient. Lobby and breakfast area very accommodating.
What could be improved: Our room was on the 2nd floor. The room and bathroom needs an urgent renovation including the wooden floor which is falling apart. We returned in the evening to the hotel, showering after 22:00 is not enjoyable as there is no hot water.
The acoustics in the room in regards to the outer corridor are very bad. Every person who passes in the corridor is heard on the inside of the room.was great value the staff made it very pleasant and helped us so. much. lovely breakfast – Louise from Jersey – 30 October 2023 (8/10)
The staff were extremely helpful booking taxis , advice on travel providing packed breakfast for early start
very accommodating
What could be improved: the water pipes from other bathrooms tracked through ours so could Hera every time someone used bathroomGood stay for The Ryder Cup! – Andrew from United Kingdom – 15 October 2023 (8/10)
Friendly and helpful staff, nice breakfast buffet
What could be improved: Small room but very cleanNot the best Best Western – Plilikoi from United States – 14 October 2023 (7/10)
What could be improved: The bathroom sink was very slow to drain. We had to ask several times for a roll of toilet paper. Despite having a Best Western account it was cheaper to book on Booking.com.
