Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first heard “B&B A Home in Rome,” I rolled my eyes a little – you know how these places love to throw around the word “home” like it actually means something. But walking up Via Carlo Alberto, just a few blocks from Termini Station, I have to admit they weren’t totally wrong about the vibe.
The thing about this street is that it’s got this perfect balance – close enough to the station that you’re not dragging your luggage through half of Rome (trust me, those cobblestones get old fast), but far enough that you’re not dealing with all the chaos and, well, let’s call it the “character” that comes with being right on top of a major train hub. The building itself has that classic Roman feel without being stuffy about it, and the owners – they actually live there, which you can tell makes a difference. There’s this genuine warmth when you walk in that you just don’t get at those cookie-cutter hotels near the tourist spots.
What really got me was how they handle the details that matter when you’re actually staying somewhere. The rooms have proper shutters (not those flimsy curtains that let in every street light), and honestly, the beds are better than what I have at home. The breakfast situation is legit too – none of that sad continental spread with stale pastries. They do fresh stuff, and the coffee… I mean, it’s Rome, so the bar is pretty high, but they clear it easily. The whole place has maybe six or seven rooms, so it never feels crowded, and you’re not fighting for shower time or waiting in line for anything.
Here’s what I really appreciated though – they know the neighborhood. When I asked about getting to Trastevere without taking the tourist route, the owner didn’t just point me toward the metro. He sketched out this walk that goes through some quieter streets, past this little market on Via Emanuele Filiberto that most people miss completely. And when you’re coming back late after dinner (which, let’s be honest, is every night in Rome), the area feels safe and residential rather than sketchy like some parts around train stations can get. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything works the way it should, the people running it actually care, and you end up staying an extra night because checking out feels like leaving friends behind. Plus, and this is crucial – the wifi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, which honestly puts it ahead of places charging twice as much in the city center.

Good place for a short stay – Francine from Australia – 27 June 2025 (9/10)
Clean, helpful staff, great location
What could be improved: Difficult check-in system. We had to have a neighbour use his phone to access entry. Once checked in, easy after that with keys.Everything you'd expect plus a personal touch – Adele from United States – 1 March 2025 (9/10)
I appreciated all of the usual aspects–cleanliness, view, quiet. But the thing that made the biggest impact on me was the personal nature of the place. That staff's communication was kind, specific, and accommodating. A staff member provided a good breakfast selection, including protein like prosciutto, eggs, and yogurt. If I return to Rome, I'll return to this place.
What could be improved: This is just a suggestion for the front door to the street: It would be great if the timing on it could be quicker, so it could close about 15 seconds faster. (This also may not be under their control; it's probably a whole building thing.)Nice experience – Moufid from Germany – 4 February 2025 (8/10)
