Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at my fair share of Roman hotels, and Babuino 79 genuinely surprised me. When you first walk up to this place on Via del Babuino, you might actually walk right past it – it’s got this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel.” The entrance is sort of tucked between those high-end boutiques that make this street famous, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, but somehow it feels removed from all that chaos.

The thing about this location is that locals actually use this street. I mean, sure, there are tourists shopping at the designer stores, but Via del Babuino connects Piazza del Popolo to Piazza di Spagna, so you get this constant flow of Romans just going about their day. There’s something energizing about that – you’re not stuck in a tourist bubble. The hotel itself has this boutique feel that’s hard to pin down… it’s sophisticated without being stuffy, you know? The rooms have this modern Italian design that actually works (I’ve seen plenty that try too hard). What really got me was the attention to details – the lighting is spot-on, the bathroom marble feels substantial, and the beds are legitimately comfortable, not just dressed up to look fancy.

Here’s what I wish someone had told me before I booked: the street can get a bit lively in the evenings, especially on weekends, but it’s more of a pleasant urban hum than actual noise. If you’re a super light sleeper, maybe request a room facing the courtyard. The staff – and this is where the 9.5 rating makes sense – they actually know Rome. Not just the obvious tourist spots, but where to get the best carbonara at 2 PM on a Tuesday, or which gelato place the locals hit up. One guy at the front desk told me about this tiny wine bar around the corner that I never would have found otherwise. Check-in was smooth, no weird hidden fees or surprise charges that seem to pop up everywhere these days. The whole experience felt… I don’t know, honest? Like they’re not trying to extract every possible euro from you. You’re paying for the location and the quality, but you’re getting genuine hospitality on top of that. If you want to be in the heart of Rome’s most elegant shopping district but still feel like you’re experiencing the real city, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

  • Matthias from Luxembourg (10/10)

Everything. It was a lovely apartment in a great location. Our room was facing towards the smaller street in the back, meaning that it was quiet. It still had a lovely view. The main entrance is right on the lovely Via del Babuino, which is not nearly as busy as the Via del Corso. The interior of this historic building is decorated very tastefully. The elevator is new, and the apartment was great access to amenities (cafes, a small supermarket, Spagna metro station, taxis etc).
