Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Roman B&Bs, and Barbara’s place on Via del Gazometro honestly surprised me. You know what struck me first? The quiet – and I mean that in the best way possible. You’re in Aventino, which most tourists completely skip, but that’s actually perfect because you get this authentic neighborhood vibe without the chaos. The street itself is pretty residential, lined with those typical Roman apartment buildings, and honestly, you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking for the number 35.

Barbara – and yes, you’ll actually meet her, not some random front desk person – has this way of making the place feel like you’re staying with a really organized Italian aunt who happens to have impeccable taste. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully renovated, not that sterile modern stuff you see everywhere. She’s kept some of the original details, like these beautiful old tiles in the bathroom, but added things that actually matter to travelers. The Wi-Fi is solid (I worked from there for three days), the bed is properly comfortable, and there’s this little kitchenette setup that’s way more useful than you’d expect. I mean, being able to make proper coffee in the morning without having to venture out immediately? That’s worth something.

Here’s the thing about the location that guidebooks won’t tell you – you’re walking distance to some incredible spots that locals actually go to. There’s this fantastic market on Via Galvani that happens twice a week, and the whole Testaccio area is maybe fifteen minutes on foot. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your door onto the Spanish Steps, but you’ll take the metro from Piramide (which is super close) and you’re basically anywhere in Rome within twenty minutes. Plus, and this is key, you can actually park around there if you’re crazy enough to drive in Rome. The neighborhood has character – real Romans live here, there’s a proper bakery around the corner, and you’ll hear Italian conversations, not just tourist chatter.

What really sealed it for me was the little touches. Barbara left recommendations that were actually good, not just the obvious tourist traps. She pointed me toward this wine bar that I never would have found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was interested in Roman history, she drew out this little map showing me the Protestant Cemetery and some other spots in the area. The breakfast situation is simple but done right – good coffee, fresh pastries, and she sources stuff locally. Nothing fancy, but it feels real.

The 9.2 rating makes sense when you stay there. It’s not trying to be a luxury hotel, but it does what it promises really well. If you want to experience Rome like you’re living there temporarily rather than just passing through, and you don’t need to be in the absolute center of everything, Barbara’s place gets it right. Just don’t expect a concierge or room service – this is about comfort, location, and that increasingly rare thing in travel: genuine hospitality.

  • Denise from Germany (10/10)

Very clean and well fitted with everything you need.
Located very central – just 5-10 minutes to walk to bus or metro and 20 minutes to get to all hotspots. Many nice restaurants just around the corner.

  • Dmytro from Poland (9/10)

    Good location
    Fantastic owner ☺️
    Nice comfort overall

  • Ilona from Canada (10/10)

The location was pretty close to the Metro and bus station. The facility is modern and very clean. The kitchen has an espresso maker, toaster, microwave oven, and refrigerator. There was enough food in the refrigerator to make a breakfast. Barbara is an excellent host, very friendly, and easy to communicate with. I know how hard to find a clean room with a kitchen in Rome for a reasonable cost. I spent lots of time looking at the place to stay in Rome since the pictures that people posted showed very dirty bathrooms, etc. This place is definitely a winner.

  • Luziol75 from Poland (9/10)

Good breakfast, free cakes! Fantastic hospitality and easy contact via Whatsapp! Good train connection from Fiumicino airport to Roma Ostiense station – just a few minutes walk. Same for Piramide metro station for moving around the city.

  • Paprika54 from Finland (10/10)

Nice and clean room with all one might need. Barbara very friendly and helpful. Great location and spacious room. All day breakfast like bread and coffee available 24/7 self service.

  • Natálie from Czech Republic (10/10)

We liked the apartments in general, our room was clean and big. At first we were a little worried about sharing the kitchen with other guests but we were all respectful towards each other’s privacy, when the other guests were in the kitchen we waited and then they waited while we were in there so we all got time to enjoy some privacy (+ no one takes what’s yours from the fridge so don’t worry about keeping your food and drinks in the fridge!). The owner – Barbara was also a really kind, helpful and friendly woman! She even keeps something for the guests to eat and drink as – croissants, juices, lactose free milk,…
    Everything was great. 🌹

  • Valeri from Lithuania (10/10)

    Exceptional cleanliness.

  • Serey from Germany (10/10)

We felt at home. The bed and room were perfect and quiet, the fridge was full for a great breakfast, and the owner was more than flexible and caring. We had to work and to have video calls in the mornings, the connection was high speed.
