Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Atlante Star? It’s tucked away on Via Vitelleschi in this perfectly Roman way where you almost walk past it, then suddenly realize you’ve found something special. I mean, the Prati neighborhood isn’t flashy like Trastevere or touristy like the area right around the Colosseum, but that’s exactly why it works. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from St. Peter’s Basilica, but you’re staying where actual Romans live and work.
The hotel itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Italian rather than trying too hard. The lobby’s got marble floors that echo just enough to remind you you’re in Rome, and the staff – honestly, they seem to actually enjoy their jobs, which isn’t always a given at four-star places. My room faced the street, and sure, you’ll hear some traffic in the morning (it’s Rome, after all), but it dies down by evening when the locals are all inside having dinner. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid four-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent bathroom with a shower that actually has good water pressure. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly, which is sometimes more valuable than fancy amenities that don’t function.
What really sells this place is the neighborhood situation. You’ve got the Ottaviano metro stop about five minutes away, which connects you to the rest of the city without the chaos of staying right in the centro storico. There’s this fantastic little alimentari around the corner on Via Germanico where you can grab prosciutto and cheese for an impromptu picnic, and the morning espresso situation is sorted – there are at least three proper coffee bars within a two-block radius. The Vatican Museums entrance is close enough that you can actually go back to your room for a midday break if the crowds get overwhelming (and they will, especially if you’re visiting between April and October). I actually saw guests doing exactly that, which is pretty smart. The hotel’s restaurant is decent but not spectacular – you’re better off exploring the neighborhood trattorias, though room service works fine if you’re jet-lagged and just need something simple. Parking’s available but you’ll pay for it, and honestly, you don’t need a car anyway since you’re so well-connected to public transport. Check-in was smooth, they held my luggage when I arrived early, and the concierge gave me actually useful recommendations rather than just pointing me toward the obvious tourist spots.

Views for breakfast – Stefan from Germany – 27 June 2025 (8/10)
Old school hotel. Ask for a renovated room, it is a big difference, better beds, fresh bathroom, compared to the old ones. Great breakfast and great views. Very helpful staff.
What could be improved: We booked the hotel because of the roof-top restaurant, but it was booked (or blocked) our entire stay of four nights! They don’t keep slots for hotel guests.thank you Atlante star for making our trip to Rome very special. Friendlyand helpful staff.perfect location for shopping – Tamara from Portugal – 20 May 2025 (9/10)
the roof top was amazing with the most beautiful view of the Vatican and city
Great location, comfy bed, but rattling door and ironing in the lobby – Ingrida from United Kingdom – 26 April 2025 (9/10)
The location is excellent. Close to Vatican City and still walking distance to Roma centre (more than 15min walk). We had a suite 302/303 and it was great size, very comfy bed and great shower. The room windows were towards the courtyard so not much of a view, however, we didn’t book the views. Hotel in generally quiet area therefore very quiet at night. Hotel has terrace where one can enjoy the views while enjoying some food or drinks (pricey though!). The breakfast restaurant (ground 6) has amazing views and excelled spread of fresh foods and juices on top of usual selections.
What could be improved: To get to the reception you have to get up some steps and it is a task with heavier suitcases. The staff are available to help. One of the lifts was out of order so everyone are using just one to go up and down, so allow extra time when leaving. Of course, you can use stairs. We were on floor 3, but after getting out of the lift we still had to go down some steps to reach our floor. The door to the room was a bit flimsy and would rattle from any gust of wind, so we put a chair against it to have a peaceful sleep.
Also, the only place to iron was downstairs in the lobby area where other guests might be sitting – this we found very odd especially for a 4 star hotel! There is no kettle in the room.Very good – Lyndon from United Kingdom – 25 April 2025 (8/10)
The staff were excellent. Valet parking worked great. The roof top garden/bar was lovely with a wonderful view of the Vatican city. Getting around on the Metro worked well.
Would definitely use this hotel again.
What could be improved: The shower in the room was poor. Be careful with the restaurants in the city, some like to rip you off.Superb – Fanny from Indonesia – 18 April 2025 (9/10)
near St Peter basilica, Vatican view when you sit near window at breakfast time. very good breakfast.
What could be improved: our room is not same level with the lift, we should bring our luggage some steps downstairs.Good traditional hotel in a great location – Michael from United Kingdom – 11 April 2025 (9/10)
We stayed at the Atlante Star to mark a significant wedding anniversary. We let the hotel know in advance and they very kindly gave us a room upgrade and complimentary welcome drinks on the rooftop terrace. The hotel's location is fabulous for the Vatican, for local buses, is a 5 min walk to the metro station for trains to Termini, where you can connect to the airports, and is 2 min walk from Borgo Pia, a pedestrianised street with many good trattorie. The roof terrace has fabulous views of St Peter's and the city, although drinks there are quite expensive. The hotel's buffet-style breakfast was really delicious and all the staff are very attentive. Our room was a little dark but that, plus the massive bed and extremely comfortable mattress, meant restful nights. On check-out, we took the hotel's airport transfer which was competitively priced and efficient.
Would stay there again.Enough said – James from United States – 29 March 2025 (7/10)
For an European hotel the room were good. Bed was king size and the bath room was larger than expected. Good shower and a tub in our junior suite. Main elevator was being worked on the whole week. But the backup elevator was good. Bar up top was nice. The breakfast that was included was very good. Eggs, bacon. Tons of pastries and multiple juices. Great view of the Vatican. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay there again.
Superb – Nenad from Serbia – 4 March 2025 (9/10)
Everthing great. Only one elevator is not enough.
Superb – Fiona from Ireland – 2 March 2025 (9/10)
Location is excellent, as is the hotel and staff.
What could be improved: A lot of steps – and one of the lifts wasn't working…..Good – Trevor from United Kingdom – 18 February 2025 (7/10)
Great rooftop bar, friendly staff, clean, comfortable suite with good bathroom.
